I have a Easco 3/8 ratchet that needs new guts and wondering if parts are available, found it in a car at the junkyard and got a few years out of it before it quit working. Hate to throw a made in the US ratchet in the scrap pile and would like to fix it if possible.

Pics would help. They were part of Danaher if I’m not mistaken.. so Matco/craftsman/Allen pear head ratchet kits might work

0db272dec45f70e83025ce6309ff73bb.jpgIf it looks like this, it shares the same design as craftsman ratchets that look like this:

I can’t find any easco pear head ratchets on an image search so the Matco connection is probably useless

There should be a cross reference for the ratchets somewhere on here, Ebay is likely the best bet for a kit.

I want to say I saw a similar style lever in a kit as I was scanning through some listings the other day.

I would check out Allen, KD, Napa, and craftsman for kits they all made similar ratchets

Looked on ebay with the number and only one ratchet and someone trying to get 50 dollars for it.

With what number? Try and find similar Allen, kd, Matco, ratchets that have the same head design and those kits might fit.
The link above to an older post about ratchet head kits doesn’t seem to include the 72-1104 p/n, but maybe put that into the search function on GJ and see what comes up.
Also maybe just take the thing apart alongside another similar ratchet and see if the guts match. You may even be able to revive the thing by taking it apart and cleaning/lubing it

It has 72 1104 stamped on it,got it to work a little better by oiling it but its still not right.

So, i'm assuming you haven't even disassembled it to see what is wrong?

More than likely it has **** hardened grease that is limiting pawl engagement. Further hard use will strip the drive gear. You need to completely disassemble and soak in solvent to clean, then use a light grease .

No quick release means you aren't easily going to find a repair kit or donor ratchet.

Pretty sure NAPA had a similar ratchet.
Tooth count might help narrow something down also.
Some older Craftsman ratchets did not have quick release.

that's an old 30 tooth ratchet. parts for it are very scarce because, it lacks a quick release and had a short production run compared to the 30 & 36 tooth quick release versions.

I would recommend taking it apart, cleaning, inspecting, and lubing it first.

you could always contact Gearwrench and perhaps get it warrantied by them.

MATCO kits won't fit it.

The direction gear and sitch from an old craftsman 30 tooth ratchet repair kit would fit but, the drive gear wouldn't fit because of the quick release.

Parts are around, I went to a indoor swapmeet last winter where a guy had a box(s) full of the NAPA version of that ratchet NOS in 1/4" and 3/8". He want 6 and 7 dollars respectively.

Sometimes you have to take a step back, take a deep breath, and ask yourself how much time and effort do you want to spend on a 40-45 year old ratchet? :dunno:

It might be best to consider it a target of opportunity. By this, I mean leave it on the bench or in a drawer waiting for you to stumble upon a parts ratchet at a flea market, swap meet, garage or estate sale some day when you can find what you need. I can't see pouring too much time or money into it unless it's your favorite. Sad to say parts are starting to dry up on older ratchets especially the less common models.

I'm all for keeping old dogs running but sometimes you gotta cut your losses and move on. This from a guy who has a pail marked "Parts waiting for a project".:shocking:

Its going to stay on the bench until I find parts,I do have about 10 other ratchets I can use but eventually would like to fix it since it was made in the states. It is not on the top priority projects right now.
