I think used (Ebay) is your only bet. I scored a nice 6" Bison last year at a pawn shop. I also have a smaller fpu.

I haven’t ordered from Hoffman Group, but I think others have, and they supposedly ship to the US, or have distribution of some type in the US.
Garant is their house brand for tools, and Usually from quality manufacturers.

We have a Garant at work (here in Europe though...). It's about as good of a vice as it can be. Really nice jaws, very rigid construction, and it's only a 100mm wide vise (very massive for its size). We also have a Leinen Junior, which I think is also sold by Hoffmann. While I suspect the Garant is also made by Leinen, the Junior is not quite the same. I really like how massive the Leinen Junior is, the bottom "holder" of the fixed front jaw is all rounded... The old Schlegel EMF vises were also like this.

Is there a name or word to describe a "vise with a rear dynamic jaw" or "European vise?" Like the OP, I'm also looking for one, and doing so online and using the usual search tools and sites. Perhaps there's a term to use that would improve my online search in addition to using "vise with a rear dynamic jaw."
