Nice, I like that you already have a car parked inside.

Do you think you could post some pictures of how they attached different parts of the framing to the existing structure.

Yeah, my daughters car is in there, she took my truck while I was doing some work on her car. It was a little tight working on it in the old garage. Repairs will be so much easier with the new garage finished and all my tools and stuff organized.

I can get some pics of the attachment points, but there is nothing very complicated. On the walls, they just nailed the 2x6s to the existing wall. They did not even remove the wood siding.
On the roof they stripped the shingles and nailed down blocks, then they laid down a 2x12 which was then nailed to those blocks.
This house was built in the 50's so the walls are fairly substantial, they used 1x6's running at a 45 degree angle and 3/4" cedar. I'm not sure you could attach it this way on a modern built house with vinyl and OSB.

Good to see you got it shingled before that snow storm last week. Might not be closed in but its still great place to store building materials out of the weather.

Yeah, it was nice not to have to dig my truck out after the snow. I kept my tractor in there too. With all the high wind we had, I still ended up with some snow in there, but not nearly as bad as the driveway.

My wife was trying out her skills with the loader while I used the snow blower.
It took 4 hours to clear out the parking area and the driveway out to the road.
500 feet is a long way when there is 30" of snow on the ground. :wtf:

Concrete guy came over the weekend to prep for the pour.
Monday morning he was here early and got it done. :rocker:

After it starts to cure I will start running some electric.

I want to epoxy finish the floors, I'm not sure how long I need to wait after the pour, or if I can do that in the winter?

Any progress??

Not much to report. My builder is done with his part, so things will slow down a bit. I only contracted to get it wrapped and under roof.

I bought some electrical stuff and started installing boxes and drilling holes for wire last weekend, but then I ran out of daylight.

I hope to get more electrical done this weekend.

We got a new puppy and that has been a distraction as well. ;)

I got my man door installed. I thought it would be a simple task until I saw that the header was too low. After some framing modifications I got it done. I guess the floor ended up being poured thicker than the framer was expecting.:dunno:

Passed my framing inspection this past week too.

I was able to remove all the cedar siding from the adjoining wall and remove all the exterior window moldings on Saturday. After I pick up some lumber I can remove the windows and frame those openings closed. I also need to install a door between the two garages.

I had the garage door place come by to look at the existing garage door and the new opening to give me an estimate for the two new matching carriage style doors and a lift master 3800 opener.

After that we had a visit from an excavator that we have use in the past for work. He is estimating the final grading and a drainage swale. He is also going to bring in top soil so that we can plant the embankments and stabilize those.

I also started my electrical

I also started on the soffit.

It has been a little while since I updated. I finished the rough wiring and got all my light fixtures up. I started insulating and have a good chunk of that complete.
The final grading was done and 70 cubic yards of top soil were put down.
I also had a swale and berm installed along the property line to control the water that brought mud all across my driveway earlier this year.
We finally got the area along the driveway cleaned up and all the stumps ground. We planted some pasture grass in those areas.
We also just got the gutter put up, not only on the new addition, but we had the whole house done at the same time. 220' of gutter. :eyecrazy:

I finally finished the insulation and the inspector passed my rough electrical.
I also found that my GC left a lot of framing incomplete that I had to work on. The structure passed inspection no problem, but the drywall estimator pointed out lots of places where there was nothing to support the drywall.
The drywall guys came yesterday to start the job. This is were they left it on day one. They should have it all rocked out after today. They will be coming on the weekend to start slinging mud.

My new garage doors arrived weeks ago, but I did not want to schedule installation until I knew when the drywall would be complete. I have to wait two weeks until they have time to come out. I guess that will give me time to paint.

Thanks, I can't wait to get it to the point where I can start moving stuff in. Yeah, My GC was ordering stuff from both places. The trusses came from 84 lumber, but almost everything else came from Lowes.

The sheet rock was all done when I got home last night. It just passed inspection this morning. The crew is coming back on Friday (tomorrow) to start taping and finishing.

Now I have to figure out some paint colors? I'm thinking two toned with a stripe to separate the two colors. :headscrat

I have to do a brake job on my wife's car tonight, I guess I will still be in the old garage again. :wtf:

When I left for work this morning, the crew was already there sanding.
Time to get some primer going....

Here is a pic of the common wall between the two garages. I need to add a door on the right side, so that I do not have to go outside in order to get into the house.

I wired up my half my receptacles over the weekend, but half way through I ran out of outlets. I made sure to get the garage door opener outlet wired first since the doors and opener will be installed on Friday. They will need power....

I also wired up all of my lights. All four circuits seem to work as planned. Now I need to buy the LED lights to go into my 6" cans. I'm not sure exactly what to get, it seems like there are a lot of variables to choose from: watt equivalent, color temperature, beam spread, to name a few. I'm thinking 100w(15) with 4000K color, not sure about the rest.

My plan was to primer this weekend too, but I ran out of time. I did buy the primer and a longer extension pole for that 12' tray.

My wife said my shop is nicer than the house, I asked her if that was a problem? :headscrat :rocker:

The garage doors and opener were installed on Friday. I still need to install the carriage door hardware in order to get the full effect. The installer suggested that I install the trim, then the seals and then hardware last.

I have most of the inside painted with primer/sealer. That 12' tray is literally a pain in the neck to paint. :eyecrazy:

We also received some siding samples. I think we are going to go with "shadow", which is the top (darkest) color. I am going to use white trim and corners and I want high contrast. The old tan steel siding is coming down. I hate that stuff. :p

Did my first job in the new shop. I had to do the rear brakes on my truck and I also installed new tires and rims.
My truck has been really neglected since the move and new shop build but I did get a chance to clean her up a little.

Also, my epoxy floor kit came in so I can start on that soon.

I had a plan to put down my epoxy floor this weekend. They say that getting the floor prepped is the most important part. My concrete is new but it still took almost an entire day to get it cleaned and etched.

I had planned on rolling out the epoxy the next day, but the concrete is taking forever to dry. I put a dehumidifier in there and even after 24 hours it still has not dried the way I thought it should before continuing. :wtf:

Here are a couple of pics right after etching.

I got my epoxy floor down this weekend. My wife helped by spreading the flakes and she went a bit overboard on the first section. I put the clear on yesterday afternoon. Now I have to wait until next weekend until I can drive on it.

This picture is from right after the epoxy and flakes went down. I will get a pic of after the clear this week. I will try and get the rest of the wall painted as well.

I took a couple of pictures this morning and walked on the floor. The anti skid additive makes a huge difference, it's not slick at all.

Now I need a order my cabinets and get those installed. I'm thinking I will go with Newage Bold series.
