Anyone have/use one of these? I'm guessing the stripping and finishing drums have to be purchased thru Eastwood?

Or do you have another brand you'd recommend.

Why does this tool exist? There are plenty of other tools that will do what this will and much more. This thing just begs making a mess of something that it shouldn't.

Probably as a cheaper alternative to:

Board member IronTrap has one - I've seen him use it in his Youtube videos (he also happens to work at Eastwood.) It seems to work pretty well. He doesn't post here very often but you can search for his videos on Youtube under "Irontrap Garage", or send him a PM.

The link within that thread to the porter cable restorer also has a lot of pictures of projects. I used the porter cable, which is not as powerful as the Eastwood, to strip some layers of paint off of old wood I used to repair a floor in a 100-year-old house. The wood was the proper thickness and I just needed to get it clean so that it could be stained. The smaller porter cable worked really well. I imagine it would’ve gone faster with the Eastwood.

That is a good thread, thanks

I have the Metabo version...and it works great for surface cleaning and finishing. I have about 8-10 burnishing heads for various finishes I want...

I cleaned up this slab of steel from a rusty pitted surface to this...

Very nice
Would love to have the Metabo, but right now I don't have the right work to spend the $$

Its called a Burnisher and has a great many uses, we use one almost daily at the shop... finishes that no other tool can provide, a 4 1/2" angle grinder is too fast...

There are TONS of cheaper ones out there, the porter cable is not great... the Eastwood is meh.. even the cheaper ones on E-Bay work fine and are less expensive AND have a more open design that actually helps.

Thanks, would like to find one a step up from the Eastwood, however for the amount of parts I'd use it on the EW may be ok

I have the Eastwood model got it at an estate sale with other tools cheep worked super quick removing the rust and paint on my 59 Ford truck bed floor got in the groves nice and have used it on rusty square tubing. Probably would never buy it brand new outright have regular grinders I used before.

Coincidentally, Matt just posted a video about this tool on YouTube:
If you're still interested it's worth watching.
