Hey guys,

I did search to see if I could find anything before posting, but I didn't find anything that helped.

I have the Eastwood shrinker/stretcher and was making a piece for my race car last night when all of a sudden it seemed to just quit biting hard enough to shrink the aluminum.

These are brand new and I made a piece the other night and it worked just fine. This piece just isn't cutting it. It imprints the material but that's about it.

I'm working with .040 aluminum sheet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Couple of things make sure the jaws are in the right way. The split in the upper and lower jaws should not be lined up it should be offset. Also make sure the areas that slide against each other have some grease on them so they will slide easily.

Watch these as well:

As mentioned, make sure the jaws are installed correctly and also make sure that they have full range of travel. Lower and upper jaws have springs in them that help it travel through the range correctly.

If you have the foot operated HD Shrinker/Stretcher the throw can be adjusted at the back of the pedestal. If that is adjusted incorrectly it can limit the travel and movement of the metal.

Finally make sure the serrated jaws are clean and not filled with aluminum as the softer metals can clog the jaws and decrease the performance of the tool.

Hope that helps!

My bet is on clogged jaw serrations. It is possible that the jaw return spring is also broke.
