My Eastwood 135 works just fine. I've gone through a couple bottles of gas. Wire, tips, nozzles.....consumables easy to get at HD. This thing is great for home-shop welding and puts down nice welds.

In fact, it recently ended up on its side after being dumped off the cart (it wasn't me.....don't ask....:willy_nil:mad:.......)...anyway, I fixed the side door hinge and it works great, even after a three foot fall.

Just my .02.

The internals is where it all matters, we spent a bit of time testing, redesigning, and tweaking the welders to fit our exact wants and needs. There may be factories that use similar electronic parts, or even stickers, I can assure we took the time to work with our factory to assure these are built to our standards. I can only speak exactly on our welders, as I'm not sure where other companies may have had their welders manufactured.

As far as the reconditioned topic goes, most welder companies do this, as do we. It's a way of not being wasteful and fixing minor issues with welders (such as shipping damage), that can easily repaired and pass them on as "seconds" to the customer. We are doing all reconditioning in-house, and each one is tested before we put it out in our retail store for resale.

Glad to hear some others have chimed in with their experiences, as with anything mass-produced, there will always been some imperfections, but we do our best to make the entire process (even when things don't go as well as we'd hope) go smoothly.

Regards,

-Matt/EW

Have any more recon ones for sale any time soon? Was about to buy one in March for a Bday present for my brother (saw your ad on Craigslist) but it appeared you sold them all before my mind was made up.

I have Eastwood's MIG 175 w/ Spool Gun. I've had it for ~6 months now and it has performed flawlessly and was a HUGE upgrade to my Century Welder (budget-line Lincoln). It's a well built unit and it's hard to argue with a 30 day trial and 3 yr warranty. They spent the money where it counts - the internals, and saved where they could to get the price down (some plastic parts here and there).

I don't regret my purchase and would say that I would buy a new Eastwood before I bought a used Lincoln / Hobart / Miller, even if you could find a used one cheaper. If you have a tight budget, it's the smart decision in my mind.

No, they designed and engineered the welder, and have it built for them in China, to their specs. IBM did this with Lenovo and after Lenovo bought the Thinkpad name and went solo, there was a marked difference in the engineering quality .. even tho it's coming off the same factory floor.

Same thing happened with Hammerhead toolboxes & CSPS...

Hmmmm,this looks familiar,
http://www.realgearusa.com/

Anyone that thinks these machines are not a direct rip off in design of Lincolns SP series is fooling themselves......and it's such a shame to be ripping off such a stand up bunch like the whores of Cleveland.

Mr. Eastwood Company, I've heard a few good things about your welders, but why do you advertise your welder at 135A, but it is actually rated for 20% duty cycle at 90A?

Buy what you like, BUT Eastwood Welders are no rebadged welders. They are designed and built, just for Eastwood.

brought back from the dead (thread was last posted in over 10 years ago!)...anyway...
If anyone is local to Eastwood's HQ (Pottstown, PA), they are having a welder scratch and dent sale this weekend on Saturday, Nov 13. They have a list and prices on their FB page "Eastwood Company Pottstown Store"
