Easy Outs/Extractors

[Scotland Offshore ABZ]

I sheared the head of a top shock absorber mount on one of our vans on Wednesday. Ususal headchae drilling and tapping it out. I ended up having to use these ****** little hammer in easy outs as my good spiral set just seemed to flex to the point of breaking off. Can anyone recommend who makes any good ones?? Also what do you prefer spiral or hammer in ones?

I prefer the square ones versus the spiral, but I also don't get reckless with the hammering part, otherwise you end up working against yourself. In regards to brands, I have a hodgepodge of Proto and Snap on.

I like the square ones too but trying to find a decent set seems to be difficult, escpecially larger sized ones. The Spirals cost me a fortune and my squares are cheapo China MAC ones.

Get yourself a set of the multispline extractors. My set is a matco, but I think they're made my VIM. These things blow away anything else I've ever used which includes what you already own. The tag is worn but I believe my kit is a SEXS25

I have used them all and they all scare the hell out of me. If you are already having a bad day with a broken off bolt just think about how bad it will become when that easy out is broken in the hole. If the part is not easily replaced I will try an easy out with minimal torque then go to other methods.

Left-hand drill bits and a decent set of square tap-inextractors is all I need for all the the most rusted-in stuff.

I have most every kind out there.i have matco set mentioned in the link they're great but doesnt really help you.the square will usually work better of the two pictured.also like suggested if possible use left hand drill bit.pb blast it and if resort to buying a set similar to the matco make sure they're use.china **** will break or twist.i guess you could google spline type screw/bolt extractor.

That would really be more useful if you tried using the space key and a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence.
