As anyone knows, drilling a large hole in 1/4" plate steel is not fun....if using a hand drill, you start off with a pilot hole and work your way up....usually takes about 4 drill sizes to get to the final size. And as most of us know...that last hole is a *****....especially when the bit catches....
Well...in my case, I had a bunch of holes to drill....a total of 60 holes 11/16" in dia. I'm making brakets for the support beams on my 2-story addition...
Like this one....
After doing the first batch of about 24 by hand....almost breaking my wrists a few times....I decided to cheat....
Mag Drill.....pilot hole with a hand drill....then just 2 pases with the mag drill.....got some good use out of the welding table that I made last year...even with the 70+ lbs of the 'bracket' hanging on one side, table stayed nice and steady.
This evening I prime the brackets and hang them on the beams....with luck I'll have the 2nd floor sheathing done and I can start framing it....
