Eaton BR breaker panel problem.

Hey there,

I have a 200A eaton br, yes I know, breaker panel which is 2 years old and the electrical house system was completely gutted and rewired at the same time and everything was inspected and signed off.
No problems so far until last weekend, I ran a stove 60A, 2. oven 20A, ac 25A and a few 120V items like ceiling fans etc and the 120V breaker loads are balanced.

To my untrained eye the main breaker should not have flipped and after resetting there was no problem anymore.

Any thoughts?

Two of the plates and the oven.
I know I was not pulling max but even if I did it should have not tripped the main breaker imho.

I call Eaton BR "Zinsco II" would rather use GE . I would check for loose lugs & the connections between the main breaker & the panel buss, that is a place to start & photos are always good too.

I agree, I have seen 5 fryers in use, AC on a 30, coffee pots, near continuous microwave, fans lights a couple coolers, on 200. Fryers on 50A In a hot afternoon with sun shining on panel wall. Every once in a while there is a glitch and am in agreement that its worth taking a look around with a driver and checking lugs. This should happen about 10 years in to any used service. I found 2 main lugs outright loosened in recent history, wire pulled.

Unless it does it again I wouldn't worry too much.

I agree with others - check main lugs (esp if on aluminum wire). Check upstream lug connection also.

If the main tripped, but not any other breakers, it wasn't a short that caused it. Do you know anywhere you can borrow a thermal camera?

I think HD rents them. Or a $200 add on for most smart phones
