Hi all,

I've been lurking here awhile during my recent obsessive research of compressors. I think I've narrowed it down to the 5HP single stage Eaton.

http://www.eatoncompressor.com/catalog/item/504747/9379899.htm

My main and most important use for this compressor will be to run a blast cabinet requiring 10-14 CFM@80PSI, although I plan to add some other air tools in the future.

I will be mainly using it on gun parts, not anything with a huge surface area.

I have searched and read a lot of posts and realize this may have been beaten to death...BUT...

Will the Eaton keep up and shut off during blasting? What other units in the $1000-$1500ish range would be more than adequate and last for years?

The 5 year bumper to bumper warranty, low RPM, and up to 50,000 hour life sounds pretty good.

I don't want to spend more than around $1500, so no need to mention Champion etc.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks ATC. Hadn't seen that one.

I also have a chance to buy a IR 7425 T30 type for $650. I think they go for $1999 new. The guy bought it new about 10 years ago and he claims it hasn't seen tons of use and he maintained it.

Would it be a gamble worth taking? What should I look for if I look at it?

KAMS I'm wondering what the difference is between their Industrial and Premium lines is. They definitely push the Premium. I wondering if the warranty is the same.

Just remember the only companies that lie as much as welder manufacturers are those who make compressors. Buy as big as you can afford.

IR 7425 T30 ?? You mean IR 2475 T30 compressor? If so, I'd opt for the IR.

Yep that's the one. Damn dyslexia. Eaton's shipping is a little steep. So I'm thinking the Quincy QT-54 or the used IR. I would hate to spend money on something that could end up needing to be rebuilt. Does anyone have experience with the 2475 IR?

I owned the IR 2475N-5 (2-stg compressor 175 psi @ 16.5 cfm, 5HP 1725 RPM WEG motor, 80 gallon vertical tank) for 10 years and it was a great trouble free unit in my home workshop.

remember you need to meet and exceed the cabinet requirements quite a bit for non-stop blasting. small parts that your doing once ina while you can wait for the compressor to build back up if you dont want to wait add 50% capacity ontop of the requirement.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm getting a nice IR 2475 80 7.5 HP 24.3 CFM 2 stage from a member here. I'm sure it will do anything I need it to and more.
