I will be buying a compressor in the near future (spring/summer hopefully). Have seen the Eaton compressors, namely their 7.5 hp 220v twin stage unit and it looks nice with a lot of good features at a resonable price. They list them on e-bag.

Has any one bought one? Good/bad??

I have the 5hp 2cyl single stage on a 80 gal tank. It will pump up & shut off while running a 6" DA sander or any other air tool I have except my cheap die grinder, that thing probably uses 22-24+ CFM. They are large & heavy machines, the pumps & motors are about twice the size of the box store compressors. I am extremely happy with mine & haven't found any reason to wish for one bigger but if that day comes I can get a 7.5 hp motor & change the pulley to get a bit more out of it as the design speed of the pump is 840 rpm & it now runs around 650 rpm.

I have had one of theirs for about 7 years. It is a 5 hp 220 with a 3 cylinder pump. It has been a good machine. The pressure switch went after about 2 years, and it blew a head gasket. I called them and they said they used some off brands for a while. They sent me a new Square D pressure switch and head gasket FREE.

We use the 80 gal 5hp Eaton in our shop. It has been absolutely trouble free with day in, day out useage for 8 years. It is nice and quiet and works very well. If I had to do it all over again, I would buy the same thing.

I bought this one and just finished hooking it up yesterday. Very nice machine and pretty quiet. Haven't really used it yet, but time will tell. Eaton has been very helpfull and did what they said they were going to do. It is a very heavy machine 950# I got residential delivery with a lift gate. It took 3 of us 1 hour to get it unloaded, had to sawzall the pallet apart to get it off the truck and then drag the pallet jack though the mud and snow. A fork lift would have been real handy.

I have the same compressor SteveU has but I ordered it "custom"? with a 60 gallon tank for space reasons. No big deal though, It is still a great machine. Pricey? Yes, but well worth it and far superior to the average sears or home depot unit. The single stage 5hp uses the 7.5hp pump and slows it down big time so it is quiet and a true workhorse. Installed probably around 4 years ago with out any problems.

As doslocos said, they are heavy. Mine was around 650lbs shipped but it still took three guys and an interesting 2x4 frame setup with an engine crane and a floor jack to get it unloaded off the pallets.

I would not hesitate to buy one again. In fact, when it was being unloaded off the truck the paint got scraped and eaton sent us a container of touch up paint for no charge. THe only problem I have had is the water drain ball valve started to leak a little bit of air, so for around 12$ I got a new ball valve, extension and an elbow to route the stream of water where I would like. Could have warrantied it, but not worth the time. When I ordered, I spoked Directly to Matt Cain, the owner of the company about the unit they would put together to meet my needs. Excellent service.

Speaking of quiet, what RPM are the Eaton motors you guys have?

1725 rpm motor plated at 22-25 amps but which draws 19-19.5 on the clamp meter and a pump speed of 650 rpm. Sounds kind of like an old farm tractor idling when it runs. It is quiet enough to carry on a conversation standing 10-15 feet away from it without having to raise your voice though it only runs 52 seconds to go from 110 to 140 psi so unless you are blasting or running some real airhog tool it is off a lot more than it is on.

Eaton changed a few things on the compressor to suit my needs without any problems or additional cost. Unloading is mentioned, and it is a good topic to consider. I have a skidsteer loader with pallet forks, so I lifted it from the truck. The driver said he wished every delivery was so easy. Don't overlook unloading, it is not fun when faced with a 500+ lb. machine that is 4-feet off the ground and you are alone.

I purchased one back in December to run my cnc mill and I love it. I purchased a horizontal tank so it would be easier to enclose on the back of the shop. It is very quiet. I like the description above of the old farm tractor, it does sound like an old tractor at idle.
