Eaton uses a Chinese pump, however, they tend to use a too large of a pump and turn it slow, so they are underworked and should last well. A guy on another discussion group who is a compressor guru said those pumps are pretty indestructable, but you will probably not ever be able to get parts for them when you need them.... like 20 years from now... but who knows. Other than that, from my careful examination of the specs, and apparently the components they use are of good quality, and they are probably a good deal. They seem to be an honest outfit. I do not have any firsthand experience however. I did talk with them and research their products alot, ended up buying something else but nothing againist them at all.

Ditto what Charles said…

I researched Eaton compressors before I decided to purchase my DevAir. The Eaton folks are nice to talk with and returned calls quickly. I always look for a compressor that puts out the most CFM with the slowest RPM pump. I particularly liked Eaton’s 4-cylinder 7 ½ HP model. Puts out 26CFM @175 PSI with 600 RPM pump. And only $1650.00.

The deciding factor that I purchased a 5 HP DevAir was that the pump is made in Barrie Ontario rather than China. The 5 HP DevAir puts out 19.1 CFM @ 175 PSI at 635 RPM and cost $1800.00. And if you increase the RPM to 800 with a 7 ½ HP motor it’ll put out 25.9 CFM. The DevAir are also capable to run pressures at 200 PSI, that very few others can claim.

If I had to do it over again, I would look long and hard at the Eaton 7.5 hp with that 4 cyl 10 hp rated pump on a 120 gallon tank. Most 7.5 hp units are run slightly fast and mine is no exception, and is noisy. Most noise is from the intake. If you could muffle the intake filter or supply from outside, I suspect the sound would be cut in half.

Placed my order for the 80gal variety last friday. When I was in the shop they said there would be a 4 week wait. Maybe that will play into your decision. The folks were real nice to talk with and answered all my questions. Before this one I had a 5hp (advertised) 60gal Campbell Hausfeld that I abused and ran the *#@% out of for 15 years. It's still going for my brother but needs a pressure switch.
