Im building a 30x44 pole barn,it has 16inch overhang was wondering if i need to install eaves or if the building would be fine with out,i was told i dont need an eaves but thought i would ask here for more help.

Slim - depending on your grade conditions around your barn you may opt to not go forward with gutters (eaves troughs) but my generic response is all buildings (with sloped roofs) will generally benefit from having gutters installed.
The water splash from rainwater hitting the ground and not having gutters generally will create a drip line. depending on your soil type, slope of grade away from your building the constant rain drip will eat away at this area requiring occasionally adding stone back...depending on your eave height and soil type this may or may not be too severe. Catching the rain water in a gutter and directing it down and away from your building helps to keep your building pad dry, keeps your posts dry and lessens the erosion of the soil....all benefits in my mind. YOu may not need gutters from day one but I would prepare to eventually have them installed. This can easily be accomplished by making sure you use a solid 2x6 or 2x8 as a sub fascia board which gets solidly attached to your rafter or truss ends. Then wrap that with break metal if that is your finish....don't settle for a 1x fascia board. What is also important in your area is that the gutters be installed just below the roof slope line so the heavy snows don't bring down the gutters when they slide off the roofs....and/or use some snow jacks to keep the snow in place! Chris,i was thinking of installing the gutters (eaves) in the spring if i cant afford to have them done this year so the fascia will be ready for gutters ,i dont really like the fact im going to wait one winter,but i may have no choice with all the building costs,was going to go with 4 down spouts 2 per side for a 46ft. length .

My builder talked me out of gutters due to snow / ice damage as it slides off metal roof. I know there are ways of preventing that, but sounded like a headache so I just put French drain with rock down around perimeter of building to catch water.
When you put the gutters on next year, make sure to size them properly so they flow well and don't overflow. Do you have anyplace where you can direct the water once it leaves the down spouts ?

If I build with a steel roof I'll run the steel out past the fascia by the same length as the width of the gutter. I'll cut slots parallel to the fascia that will let the water run into the gutter and the snow will slide past. There shouldn't be any twigs or detritus collected but if I feel the need to clean the gutters I'll drill a 2" hole at either end and above the down spout so I can run a garden hose down the length of the gutter to push any gunk down.
