Thank you, thank you very much. I snagged a few things I had on my list. It ended up about $10 net savings after comparing Amazon prices but I'm good with that. In this heat I'll take saving $10 over earning $10 any day.

ebay's quarter ends at the end of june. it might be that they are missing their target, and are trying to encourage more transactions.

the problem is that a deal like this effects sales in two ways. it certainly does cause some transactions to happen that would not have happened otherwise, but it is likely that a substantial number of them were going to happen anyway, they have just been "pulled forward", costing them sales later. this causes sales in the following weeks to be leaner, causing them to offer more deals . . . . good for us, i suppose.

i think that this is also why they offer deals exclusively for the app. they are trying to encourage people to use the app over the web site. i am not sure if they report the percentage of transactions through the app and through the web site. it might also be that using the app makes it harder to comparison shop (dont have another window open on amazon, making it easy to compare prices), increasing sales.

i am sure that a big company like ebay knows exactly what effect these things have, though.

Thanks for posting.

Purchased a Makita 18v vac and a Milwaukee 12v right angle drill.

Both of which I didn't really need but had been looking at for a while.

That is certainly the case in my situation. I've used two discount codes recently, thanks to the patriotic consumers on GJ, for ebay purchases. I had already lined the items up from Zoro and Amazon and was just waiting until the need quadrant bisected the finance quadrant. The 15 and 20% off opportunities pushed both of these onto ebay. I wonder just how ebay is able to get all the vendors to agree to the discounts. 15 or 20% off the lowest price available seems to be a pretty big hit.

ebay is covering the difference, the seller is not involved. 15% off is really not that much when you consider what they're making in the 'final value fee' when something sells, which is often ~6% or ~10%.

big 'ole FU to ebay. Had a $80 credit from them, that was issued to me while I was on the phone 2 weeks ago, for another screw up. It appeared on my account page while talking to the rep, she and the page said it expired 9/21. Well I guess it did technically, at 9 freaking AM. who has coupons expire before the day even starts? by default ebay coupons expire 12 PST, which is what I went by as the info line said nothing about it otherwise. Wished they just said it expired yesterday. I was only waiting for something to pop up I actually needed. Then PayFiend wasn't working for me where I have credit & a balance.
