eBay Air Compressor Pumps

My air compressor (an old Colemate Sanborn) decided to lock up this weekend. I'm not too torn up; it was $65 and came with a 4 HP motor.

I have a budget of about $250 to replace it and I'd like to be able to do some HVLP painting (around 11 CFM @40 PSI), so that puts me pretty squarely in the realm of used compressors on Craigslist.

However, I poked around on eBay and found some compressor pumps that seemed interesting:

Has anyone had decent luck with a compressor like this? I guess there's no warranty, but it's not like I can get a warranty on a used craigslist compressor anyway. The Laplante compressor pumps have an 80% duty cycle, which is more than enough for me.

Thanks!

Ebay stuff looks a lot like HF stuff. Isn't HVLP a fundamentally different type of compressor?

Replacing the head seems like a reasonable option, but I would also take a look at fixing it.

Fixing it would run me upwards of $150 for parts; I figure at that point I might as well upgrade the compressor. I've got a regulator that should let me run HVLP guns off a normal air compressor, but you need to be able to push a decent amount of CFM for that to work.

The bottom two compressors are made by LaPlante, which I think means that they're actually using a Kellogg design? You can see the spec sheets and manuals here: http://www.laplantecompressor.com/pumpssinglestage.htm
