eBay bidders, do they ever shop around??

I was watching an IR 2134TiMAX impact that started at $199.00. It was a NIB impact at a dealer in FL. So at the last second, I put a bid of $215.00. It instantly jumped to $250 from others as myself swooping at the last second.

I jumped over to my Amazon page and ordered in NIB for $229.00 And they have 17 in stock at this price!

I am that guy. I automatically think the lowest price on ebay is the best price you can find. Just about everything I buy comes from ebay. I still split the tools 50/50 with my snap on driver. When he retires screw the truck, I going to ebay. I could have saved a ton buying everything off ebay.

Some eBay sellers are basically flipping products that they purchase off of Amazon Prime.

That should tell you that eBay is not always the cheapest.

As stupid as it sounds, some people find it easier to buy something that they can pay for it with PayPal, rather than transfer PayPal funds to a bank account, than purchase on Amazon or wherever, than pay CC account from bank account...

Also, someone's wife may be monitoring CC bills and NOT the PayPal account!

I notice it with Snap On ratchets. I have bid on several ratchets, only to have the price shoot up to higher than retail in the last few seconds of the auction. Even if you don't have a driver, Snap On ships for free from their website. I have gotten a lot of good deals off of eBay, but I always do my research before bidding, to avoid paying too much.

The best thing is I started the sale at .99$.. I didn't need the thing cause I bought a mikita so I was going to take whatever I could get.

You need to shop, for snap on stuff either here or Ebay.. I just bought a MG725 for 315$new and bidding on some other snap on stuff. Now I bought all my milwaukee fuel stuff except my 1/2 hi torque impact from amazon.. amazon was 40$ higher than Toolbarn.

Time is money and I found tht I wasted a shitload of time chasing money (or the saving of)on E-bay.

I decided it was worth the tad extra to buy everything of my local truck. I am a firm believer in buliding business relationships. I hope to get the same treatment out of MY customers. Good business is about relationships and just just cant have a good relationship with e-bay.

Just for fun yesterday I looked around e-bay for a ctr761 people are willing to pay within 20$ of new for a beat to **** used tool. It's crazy. The world is full of people with no shame, no class and are willing to pay new prices for used cause they think they can walk onto the truck and warranty the tool. Lame.

People are too damn caught up with being cheap these days, willing to waste hours or drive miles to save .25 cents. I mean if you have nothing but time on your hands to chase tools by all means go for it. Some of us are too busy earning.

It's an auction, and auctions are geared for maximum value for the seller and the auctions house on the fees it collects. Value and worth can be a two ends of the spectrum and the psychology of an auction plays into peoples persona of not being out done and will bid above their means or worth of product to have the satisfaction of getting the item in question.

I miss the Ebay days when bidders and winners identities were not masked. You could research a bidders bid, buy and sell habits to ascertain what kind of person they where. Not anymore.

eBay was built around the proxy bid system - bid the max you're willing to spend on the item, eBay will automatically up your bid as other people outbid you.

The system works, assuming that OCD bid snipers who overbid to get the thrill of the win don't muck things up.

I quite frequently check out Snap On stuff using the "Newly Listed" and put low token bids on low price non reserve auction. I know most times I will be out bid, but I have snagged the occasional gem for way cheap because the auction garnered no other bids.

Depending on how people filter their search or how a seller lists an auction, some stuff can get squirreled away in the recesses of Ebay that does not generate a lot of traffic or comes up in many peoples search results.

There are sometimes a few legit reasons for people paying "more."

They have eBay bucks or an eBay coupon that still makes it cheaper than anywhere else (ie, 20% off coupons are rare, but awesome if you get one). I've occasionally bought something off eBay that was higher priced, but with my coupons, was much lower than anywhere else (I love the $10 off $25 and 20% coupons).

They are an international buyer. They will pay higher than most US retail prices (especially since those retail sellers won't ship internationally) and then can get certain products much cheaper than a local store in their sells.

However, I've sold things in auctions that for whatever reason have gone way above what you could pay in a retail store to American customers, even if they had a 20% off and eBay bucks to use.

And then there are the pawnshops that are on eBay selling used, beat to hell Snap On for $5 off list price, OR (as I've actually seen before!!!) a good condition used Snap On going for higher than list off Snap On's website. Stupid.

E-Bay is my last stop when I cant find something used. E-Bay is rarely the best price, but if you have to have it now and you cant wait and cant find it anywhere else then thats what your stuck with.

I really don't want to walk around pick a part all morning out in the desert looking for a part that might or might not be the right part I need if I can find it on ebay from a guy who is a reputable seller and will stand behind the part if he has advertised it wrong.

My time and the convenience of the transaction are worth the $10 or $20 extra I might have to put into it. I find ebay to be very useful for used car parts.

It isn't just e-bay that will can spend too much. Just go to any "live" auction and you probably see the same thing. Some deals, some stuff overpriced. Pawn shops no different.....

Hahah, this brings up a funny guy I know. He literally walks into Home Depot, buys a bunch of faucets and knobs and **** that looks shiny. Puts it on ebay, and makes a profit.

He calls every ebayer a dumb sucker.

But wait, he does that with TJ Max, Old Navy, Marshals whatever other store is around. Most of the **** he doesn't even need to take a picture. He just gets it from the vendor site. It's amazing the amount of suckers overpaying because of ebay.
