I decided to give this a try. I'm finishing a small corner of my garage for now. Eventually the entire garage will be finished and once i'm able to build a shop outback ill also finish that myself because i'm cheap.
My thinking was that $40 a day was going to turn into a three day rental at least and I'd be rushed into finishing it. I began to look for used ones on craigslist but they were usually only $20 cheaper than the guy had paid Harbor Freight for the thing originally. I decided to check ebay and found these.

Free shipping was the big thing for me. I believe if I wanted to be rid if it I can easily sell it locally for $80 or so and only have $40 (one day rental from HD) into it.
The entire thing snaps together and can be easily disassembled for storage. It reaches to 11' high and an extension can be purchased for an additional $48 (free shipping) which will allow it to reach 15'. My ceilings are just over 8' so I didn't need it for this project.
I was able to lift the 5/8" Firecode sheets onto the lift myself. One thing that would be more handy is if it were a bi shorter so drywall sheets could be slid out of the truck bed onto the lift. I also was unable to use it for the lower section which was about a foot off the ground but some 2x4s screwed into studs worked just fine.
For anyone considering doing some sheetrock work id highly recommend it. Not sure how it would stand up to daily use for a contractor but for at home use it makes hanging 4'x8' 5/8" sheetrock a one man job.
