Maybe that bidder would be interested in these:

Some guys just see Snap-on and don't care about the grinding marks. He should have left the marks on the wrenches; they'd probably be worth more.

The price is high for tools with engravings. Now that the engravings are ground off, the chrome is gone in those areas, and those areas will start to rust (though not terribly, snap on uses very high carbon steel), lowering the value even more.

I can even see some copper tint in some of those grounded wrenches...
Bad idea to grind off markings....just make them look worse and rust faster.
Guy has no idea about corrosion and why tool makers plate their products...short of being made out of SS or pure gold. ;)

I wouldn't mind the appearance, but the warranty is gone, is it not? If I were Snap-On, I wouldn't warranty a wrench that has been ground.

Depends on the dealer. That being said, that price is ridiculous. I won the 3/8"-3/4" set off ebay for $80.

I don't think it "voids" the warranty, but I have to figure the guy in the truck is going to think I may be trying to get a warranty replacement for a cosmetic issue, so it may not go very smooth.

Whats going to go wrong with one of those wrenches to require warranty replacement anyway? Other than breaking it outright, nothing but finish issues like chrome flaking, and then grinding may void that.

Really? I never really noticed!:lol_hitti

Got a chuckle out of me.

As one who has sold a silly amount of Snap-On on ebay this sale does not surprise me. I have sold some sweet high quality USA tools for very little (might as well give the Cornwell tools away half the time) and I've sold some sorry-*** abused Snap-Ons for high dollar. In fact, we have a joke at work that we should mess the SO tools up to make them sell higher.

Depends on the dealer.
I'm surprised. I would think that they say that you caused the failure by removing material thus weakening the wrench. But hey, if they replace it, thats great.

Same as Any other wrench, you could bend it or spread it. I would just be afraid that they would claim that you weakened the wrench by grinding it(and you would be weakening it some).

I've seen quite a drop in money order allowances; it's a good thing I don't need anything desperately.

Sellers are still allowed to accept money orders but come January that will end. Too bad. Someone actually thanked me the other day for still accepting them.

Not to go too far off in topic but....

Im a firm believer in Paypal, for both buying and selling. I dont mind losing the 2.9%, I consider it part of doing business, and most buyers (95+%) insist on it anyway). I dont like waiting for checks to clear, and money orders still require a trip to the bank. As a seller there are still important steps to take when receiving paymets through paypal(I like using paypal, its a necessary evil, I dont like their business practices though).

As a buyer, nothing is safer than Paypal through a major credit card (a debit card doesnt offer the same protection!).

I thought money orders were supposed to end in October; there was a thread on it around here somewhere.

The change went into effect then but ebay is allowing time for sellers to make the switch. If you'll notice you can only mention money orders in your description not through ebay. January is the cut off or at least it was the last time I looked at the new rules. Many sellers just read "no money orders" and stopped accepting them. The company I work for will take them as long as possible.

What's the odds the "tool room marks" getting buffed off would all be in the exact same places on all the wrenches? Looks to me like somebody had a drivers license number or something else that got ground off. Big chance those are hot.
