Ebay led lighting?

I have trolled the forum for 3 years looking for a good lighting solution for my 26x33 with 9 foot ceilings. It's heated to a minimum of 50 f as I live in western New York State.

My existing t12 do not do the job and I hate to ignore led options but USA sourced products appear to be to expensive and the ROI is not there yet.

It appears the Far East is enjoying the newer technology at substantial discounts so I pulled the trigger on 10 of these as a test. Round @ 21 watts each , 1880 lumens theoretically. Dim-able as well and supposed to be UL rated.

Did I make a huge mistake? They are probably cheap Chinese ****!

Hopefully these will pass the test and I will add another 30 over time.

Feedback please

Thank you

How do you mount them? Looks like they are designed to go in a hole in your drywall.

Looks like they have low voltage pigtails. Do they need a transformer?

"Base Type: MR16 GU10 E27" I don't think so. And yeah ^^^what Stuf said^^^.
It'll be interesting to see what you get.
Specs look pretty much the same as these surface mounts from the same seller except the price is double and a driver is shown in the pictures.

Sad they only have very warm or very cool colors. Nothing 4-5000K

Also the CRI is at 75 which is verrry low.

But hey its still a light option!

Please post pics once installed I'm really curious to know if their cool white is more blue than white.

Look like retrofits for recessed cans, but w/ off-breed products like that Ebay listing make me very leery...

Like buying a Yugo, you get what you pay for.

this what i want also, these would be perfect for my office as where i want to put can lights there is duct work right on top of the rafters, so only 3" or so of room, these would work perfect, however i hate yellow lights and only use daylight.

will still watch this as i want to know how these turn out.

I tell everybody, ive bought a lot of this cheap led stuff, bulbs and what not. The stuff will work although I've opened a lot of the stuff before installing and reflowed the solder joints. Some that I have seen has been OK, but a lot of the other stuff has been just crappy solder.

Is it UL listed? the transformer seems to be CE only. i bought some similar units -tests work fine... but since transformers are not UL im considering not using them. I have to pass inspection.

Be forewarned that even the Chinese lamps that have a UL Label may be fraudulent. Check UL.com certifications database.

I too ordered a test lamp and decided against it because there was no UL marking. Since then I read more about the CE vs. UL listings and I believe CE is tougher than UL.

The light is nice but in the end I went with a bunch of fluorescents and 5 regular down cans that I put LED bulbs in.

The CE mark has no relevance in the US, the listing needs to be from a NRTL, Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory, which UL, & ETL, are a couple on the list. ChiCom goods are one of the biggest offenders when discussing counterfeit goods.

They arrived stuffed in a box with no padding.
The UL police on here have me concerned

Shall I use them as is?

Or pick up UL rated power supplies?

Your thoughts?

Here's my current plan

I will use the drivers and fuse each one both on the incoming and outgoing sides

Will be out of town but hope to have this completed next week.

If you're fusing, understand that the driver is likely to have a significant amount of inrush current.

The ebay vendor replied: "Yes, we have UL certificate but not mark in the light, is it suitable for you?"
LOL. If they had a UL file they'd immediately respond with a UL file number that starts with "E" (E123456). We pay over $50,000/yr just in UL maintenance fees. You can bet your last dollar that our UL file numbers are given out immediately if anyone ever questioned it.

To verify a vendor or UL file number go here. I've seen the same file number appear on several different manufacturers Chinese products. If the file number returns no results, then they don't have a file, or they let it expire, or it was pulled by UL due to violations.

I received a similar product yesterday that I ordered for evaluation last week.

http://www.aspectled.com/collection...ights/products/6-ultra-thin-recessed-light-9w

It is not UL listed and I won't be installing it. I just wanted to see how warm they get and how bright they are.

There is a UL version of the same product

http://www.aspectled.com/products/6-ultra-thin-recessed-light-9w-ul-listed

The UL part is $72.91, the unlisted part is $27.99. I asked if there were any hardware differences, and he said just a couple of minor ones. He complained about the cost of UL certification when I asked about the large difference in price.

I had the unit on all last night. The back of the unit was at room temperature. The front was warm but not hot. Brightness was even across the entire lens. I had the daylight version (4K).Although I ordered a non dimable power supply, mine came with a more expensive dimable one. The dimmer is definitely larger than yours, and must be installed diagonally in a 4 by 4 box. Nowhere on my unit (the $27.99 one) was a manufacturer name or country of origin. It did have the CE label. It used the same connectors as your unit.

I might go for the UL version, after verifying the certificate. I was unable to find it in the UL database under AspectLED.

To find all LED Recessed Luminaire manufacturers that have UL Listed products enter "IFAO" in the "UL Category Code" search box.
