I watched these for a week or so. Then fell for the line "crazy cheap". They arrived yesterday. A little elbow grease, wire pipe brush and a Brillo pad and the sockets and extension cleaned up beautifully. The ratchet is a little unhappy. One of the original screws is gone, and the mechanism is a little balky. I am going to open it up and investigate. I am wondering if there is a Proto rebuild kit that would work.

^ That particular ratchet is the equivalent of a 1661 Penens. I just received one a few days ago. I had given my other one to a friend and wanted another, because it had an amazingly smooth action for such an old low-tooth model. Pretty simple mechanism inside - not much to go wrong. The Penens model occurs frequently in Ebay listings. Fleet not so much. I would assume they're the same inside:

I just opened this one up and it's bone dry inside and the action was .... "acceptable". I would imagine it will be much better with a good cleaning and a bit of lubrication.

So of course the wrapping was blown for some ratchet surgery. Under the grunge it said 1661 so must be the same.

Looks pretty much identical. Now we will see if I can figure out how to put it back together!
