craftsman47 - those are roll pin punches.... not something I generally mess with, fortunately.

mp333 - I thought it looked like a hell of a deal on those sockets, but again, 3/4" drive is WAY too big for my needs... 90% of the time I'm using 1/4" drive.

I picked up two Thorsen 1/4" sets recently, and only waited two days for the missing socket to appear in the listings.
I don't collect S-K. Old boxes for S-K socket sets are currently going for anywhere from $3-$25 on Ebay. (for whatever reason S-K empty boxes are second in price only to Snap-On on Ebay)

Thanks for the plug, that's mine. BTW, there are 13 people watching that auction. Its not worth much but it isn't going to only bring $7.00 either.

I'm a big Ebay fan. It isn't like the early days but there are still great deals on tools. These are really nice screwdrivers and the same seller has them in a slightly longer version as well. I wish they had Phillips to go with these.

proamerica pliers:

based on several favorable comments scattered all over on this site, I picked up a few of the "proamerica" miniature pliers direct from the factory on a "black Friday" special.

go to Ebay, go to "search", type in "KAL America pliers" - there are two sellers there who are low-balling them out for about the same as what I got at 40% off retail - I picked up another pair from one of them earlier today.

proamerica's site HERE (if you want to check MSRP): proamericatools.com

small red steel tool box
10" L x 6" W x 4-1/4" H

I ordered one of these a week ago. Thought it would be nice for my girlfriend to hold sewing notions and stuff. Expected thin/cheap. Got sturdy/durable. Far better than expected. Well built. Not super-thin steel. Good latch. Handle is spindly but that won't be a problem unless you're carrying bricks in it.
I just ordered two more.
He's got THREE left.
$14.00 w/free shipping:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Red-Metal-S...052032?hash=item3d0aac0a40:g:tQ8AAOSw-jhUKM33

Same seller also has a white steel box with a combination lock on it:
11.5" L x 9.75 W x 5.25" H
My guess is he had them both manufactured by the same outfit.
$20.00 w/free shipping:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Whit...989532?hash=item3ab80d681c:g:zJMAAOSwajVUSpRD

=========================================================

Received today three pairs of the "Proamerica" miniature pliers from the manufacturer.
Still waiting on delivery of two more pairs from Ebay sellers (see above.)
Look damn nice. Very well made stuff.

Also received today the Wilde miniature Ignition Pliers (5" groove-joint pliers w/insulated handles)
And the Wilde 8" slip-joint pliers (the "two pairs" deal mentioned above)
And a little 1/4" drive universal joint made by Wilde (not listed above)
Got the angle-nose Wilde 8-inch slip-joint pliers a couple days ago.
Very well made stuff. I'm impressed by the workmanship.
I'd never even heard of "Wilde" up until about a month ago.
Excellent product from an American manufacturer, and I didn't spend $80 for a pair of pliers.

Hmm yea after looking again it's just a bunch of random size extras
I'd say it's gotta be worth $50 for someone who wants it. Not me though, I want complete sets

I think the BE was made by SK. Some real early Craftsman were SK. Neat stuff, but for that money, I'd rather get new SK ! - Paul

"BE" = New Britain Tool Company 1931-1947, if we can trust Mr. Lauver's research:
http://www.thegaragegazette.com/index.php?topic=867.0

there was another smaller BE set posted on there a couple days ago. doesn't appear to be as complete, however:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Cra...060237?hash=item33ae448d0d:g:LmcAAOSwf-VWbH9w

not sure, but it's possible the "Christmas shopping fever" might be a factor in current selling prices. a smaller "V" 1/4" drive set got bid up to a wee bit over $40 earlier yesterday (12/14), and a late 1950s Indestro 1/4" drive set sold at just over $50 (including shipping) earlier yesterday (12/14), so it's possible $55 isn't too far out of line at the moment. there was another thread about "Craftsman NOS" here, but the real crazy on Ebay lately is on the "vintage" "V" stuff.

Thx 4 cycle, must be right on the BE. I think this was the early New Britain BE and then there was a much later one with H from the 60's or 70's. SK was very early Craftsman also - don't know the code for that one.

I have a bunch of V Craftsman and it is good, but not as good as Proto or Wright or SK or New Britain of that era (Husky US, Blackhawk, Napa US, others), or the tool truck brands like Mac or others. Indestro is at least as good as V too. I would pay more for the above than the V, but V is very good.

By the way, I also have some Kal and Promerica ex military US tools. All very very good stuff and underrated by far. I put most of it up against the above premium brands. - Paul

^ I'd never heard of "proamerica" up until just a few weeks ago, when I got a "proamerica" piece in a socket set I ordered online. After a Google search and some poking around I learned they were an offshoot of "KAL".
Just got a half dozen pairs of their miniature pliers and that metric offset box wrench set I cited above - and it's damn nice stuff.
"Underrated" is a gross understatement.

As for "Indestro" - almost all my tools are "Indestro", and I've yet to break any in over 40 years except for a little 4" long 1/4" drive "flex" extension that I had no business using for what I was working on - it simply wasn't designed to handle that kind of torque. I'd put "Indestro" up against any other American tool maker you want to name. Maybe that's just me, because I sold it for almost 20 years.
