I went with the little #1060D Challenger I posted on the previous page. I picked up a #1060 (same model but without the thumbwheel) a few weeks ago and was quite impressed - tiny little thing with an incredibly smooth action.

Have a mess of new Proamerica pliers on the way. :thumbup:

Glad you bought one, because Grainger Supply has a few listed just like this (exact same thing, just rebranded) from $70 upwards to $155 (Made in Taiwan for the $70 kits), the ones crossing over the $100 threshold include the famous Marson HP-2 which is still made in the USA. :lol_hitti

The one in the eBay listing is New Old Stock, Made in USA. The exact same kit purchased from Amazon and other retailers / tool suppliers will cost you more and are now Made in Taiwan. :D

Some reviews over at Amazon state that some of the included rivet sizes are not useful, really depends on their application. :)

Cripe has NOPA forceps/hemostats if you're into that kinda stuff. Top notch stuff, made in Germany. I think they're also sold as VUBUs.

not bad for $12, that's cheaper than what I just paid. just needed some locking tweezers for the tool box. Or wanted, actually. Good for taking out fish hooks too.

I must have asked this before, but I wanted some detailed feedback on the Vintage-like Brand New Ratchets available through eBay. Are they any good? I keep coming across 25-tooth, 45-tooth, etc. Some are still made by SK, Proto, and the like. Does the tooth count really dictate the performance of these ratchets? How can we tell if the ratchets have not been refurbished? And would lifetime warranty still be applicable?

I think most of us would say the lifetime warranty does not apply on a used tool, but thats going to depend on your own ethical standards.

Tooth count is going to dictate the swing arc of the ratchet. So more teeth, less swing arc, which is better in tight spots.

Not sure what you mean on whether they've been refurbished? You mean like the pawl having been replaced?

I have had SK replace stuff even after telling them I was not the original owner and tried to buy the rebuild kit and they refused to take anything. I'm a SK owner for life after that customer service.

Yep, like the pawl being replaced. Lately, instead of giving a China / Taiwan Ratchet as a replacement to customers, Sears has been taking back old USA Made ratchets and stuffed in new pawls. A good option it seems...

^ If the ratchet was well-taken care of, it shouldn't really matter a great deal if it's new or used. Grit and lack of lubrication will do them in pretty quickly. Not that difficult to see the tell-tale signs in the photos posted on Ebay.
Other than Snap-on, Blue-Point, Mac, Matco, or Cornwell, you should be able to find an excellent American-made premium ratchet on Ebay for:
1/4" drive - just under or right about $20 including shipping
3/8" drive - about the same (incl. shipping)
1/2" drive - figure $20 - $26 (incl. shipping)

Only ones I've paid more for were really hard to find collector models that generate bidding wars: #2875 Indestro, #2880 Indestro, and the old =V= Craftsmans with the "flying V" (butterfly) selector.

I'm damn picky about what I post here in this thread. If it's not something I would pay for and use, I ain't gonna post it: beat to hell, rusty, hammered, peeling chrome, engraved: deal-killers. period. too many other options out there, and tomorrow there will be another mess of 'em listed.
