That I understand, but even we can make labels like that in our own premises and label any label as Printed in USA. Samsung USA assembles their phones overseas with global components, but their manuals are all printed in South Korea, China, Vietnam, Mexico, and USA (depending on supply and demand)

No where is it mentioned in their current catalog either.

In a different listing for an entirely different Wilde Product, sockets appear to be labelled Wilde. The Box states Printed in USA (not sure what it really means); its not discretely saying Made in USA

It appears Amazon readily stocks Wilde's socket sets and prices them 3-4 times the cost than what is listed on eBay---strange.

Weird thing is it's sold directly by amazon though, usually the items they sell directly are legit. At least I haven't received any knock-off items that were sold directly by amazon and not a 3rd party.

I think we'll get a better idea once Wilde responds. Interestingly, the sets sold by Amazon are sold and and fulfilled by Amazon itself (not through any third party seller / marketplace, etc). I definitely would not consider these sets to be government surplus, etc.

As far as eBay and PayPal are concerned, PayPal does offer free return shipping up to a certain amount. There is a plausible 20% restocking fee as per the listing. If the item is not as described, eBay should be able to intervene and resolve. The Item Listing Description does state, Country of Manufacture: United States. Flag this transaction as Item Not As Described and let eBay's resolution center work it out.

Let's not resume discussion 'till we receive official word from Wilde. Too much speculation, yikes Don't want to patronize too much. This is the 21st Century

Wilde makes pliers, punches and chisles, and prybars. Most everything else they sold was made by someone else in the US, as manufacturers disappeared their line shrunk. They used to sell rebranded vise grips as their own product, when manufacturing left the US they quit. These sockets are likely a similar story. Made for them by someone else. Clearly they are a very limited seller. They probably order a run of good quality product and in order to make to cheap enough to sell in a competitive market skip extras like custom stamping with their brand. I'm sure they are legit and good quality, use them and enjoy them. They were really cheap.

As mentioned just above by B_Bimmer, Wilde outsourced all kinds of stuff from different manufacturers for years.
If you go to their website and download their online catalog you will find a number of items marked "discontinued". Most of the discontinued items are those that were not manufactured by Wilde.

Wilde currently is trying to remain focused on what they make themselves, so the current line is rather limited. They are still outsourcing some items, like the small "pick" set.

The socket set mentioned above is clearly a promotional item, packaged to sell as a price-point item in a competitive market. My best guess is that those were dumped on some liquidator and found their way to Ebay.
Since they were not purchased directly from Wilde, or one of their distributors, I seriously doubt you'll find any recourse through Wilde, nor should any be expected. They are what they are - as Bimmer says: use them and enjoy them - there's nothing wrong with them.

I agree, the quality is sub par but they can still work if needed but the older vintage ones are much better.

Look for sets with a " - V - " on the wrench, they are a little better and not stamped. I have in the past typically see them for $10 in either metric or imperial because the seller doesn't know they're better than the current ones. They "- V -" are getting harder to find, metric seems to get more $$. Hint while searching: Look for old looking case in photo.

Spn1025, in the event of a "warranty" issue, you'll probably be out of luck there. I doubt the Ebay seller is going to offer any recourse, and considering that there are no identifying marks on the pieces themselves it would hardly be reasonable to expect Wilde to warranty them either - not to mention (as I said above) they were probably something dumped by some liquidator.
I acquired three sets of KLEIN sockets a couple months ago - 3/8" drive sets of metric sockets in metal trays - same deal as the Wilde: sockets are marked with size and "USA", but no manufacturer's name or part number.
but for $8.00 for a full rack of sockets, I ain't complainin'.
Seriously, for the price paid for that set - about $20 for a US-made socket set - what do you want?

There are so many of those listed every day that I just ignore them. Prices on them are all over the place - I've seen them as low as $7 or $8 bucks, and clear up to $40 for the "rare vintage" =V= production code sets.
There is no shortage of SAE or Metric ignition wrench sets on Ebay, and Craftsman is just one of the many brands you can find on there. There are all kinds of other brands that are much better quality, but you have to watch the prices. There's a nice set of Indestro SAE ignition wrenches, but the seller wants $30 for them - he's about $10 - $12 bucks too high on that set. You might also want to check Jensen tool - a military contractor - they're nicely made and finished.

I've made several purchases from that seller and have never had any problems. Maybe his dog got sick or something. He ain't a flake (at least not from my experience.) I think I got two Thorsen socket sets from him a while back.
