While searching through various listings on eBay, I came across some severak SK Ratchets having a silverish pawl cover, whereas in others, they are black. Was there a change somewhere during the production of this ratchet sometime ago? Or does the black colored pawl cover indicate that the ratchet was rebuilt?

Curious to know as this may give us a hint of how long ago these ratchets were actually manufactured. Also, notice how the SK logo differs between the various ratchets.

SK has went through a few different owners. Not sure about current production but that black has been associated with the tuff 1 ratchets which are 70 something tooth I think. The silver are the 40 something tooth ratchets.

Edit: So I just went and looked at all my ratchets and one has the black on the bottom and is not a tuff 1 (although the one in the picture above is a tuff 1 or appears to be to me). The one I have with the black bottom I am not the original owner of so I do not know the history on it but the others I have are all over 20 years old so I can't say for sure on the current ratchets.

Just wanted to clarify my response and try and get the facts best I could without giving incorrect info.

S-K sockets with the knurled band on the drive end: older than sockets with the plain bands on the drive end.
S-K 1/4" spinners with solid green handles: older than spinners with green-and-white-striped handles.

Hi Guys, I want to try something new with the thread. Let's keep doing everything everyone is doing. But I want to open it up now too to any auction listing that any Garage Journal member wants to post for their own auctions of GJ interest. So if you are selling some stuff, you may go ahead and post your auction listing link here. Do tell us about it briefly and what is good/bad in the description. I think this will be fun but also a good outlet, as most of the GJ members are great guys and trustworthy, so should ideally be little risk buying stuff from another GJ member. Also, while classifieds here are fine in that section, some members would rather auction off their stuff than do classifieds, so let's allow that option here.

For instance, if 4 cycle actually wanted to part with something in his collection this way (which your wife thinks has really grown to astonishing levels of stuff 4c so you should really think about this!), well then I would have few qualms about bidding on any of his stuff. Now the same would be true of most established GJ members I know pretty well. Now if SPIN did this however, I would be very suspect as most likely he got the stuff to begin with for exactly ONE PENNY from Home Depot clearance!! Horrible deal. Those are some of the worst ratchets Craftsman ever made, very coarse teeth, cant hold up to a lot of torque, short, and uncomfortable. I own the 3/8" one and absolutely hate it.

I received an SK 1/2 42470 Ratchet today and the turn knob (direction lever) is loose. Is this normal? I can partially pull out and push in. Also, I can't switch direction unless I hold the anvil and then turn the knob.

Appearance-wise, almost in mint condition.

Not normal. Just e-mail or call SK and ask for a rebuild kit. Simple and easy to do and will be good as new.

That actually sounds pretty normal to me. I'm not sure what you mean by partially pull out and push in, but everything else is pretty normal sounding.

Sounds normal to me also, some do have quite sloppy direction levers, I have bought NOS like that.
