eBay has a Memorial Day coupon P20MEMDAY for 20% off. I used it to pick up a Milwaukee mid torque impact for ~$151.

Any idea what specifically it works on? Tried it on a bunch of BIN items (Milwaukee M18 stuff) and it keeps saying cannot use the code for this purchase or something similar.

What's the deal with Ebay sellers cancelling bids? I bid on a number of items over the past week, and quite a few of the auctions were cancelled before ending. "There was an error in the listing", "Item was lost or damaged", etc. given as reasons.

This happened with 4 or 5 different sellers. Can't believe they are all making that many posting errors! Did they just figure out a way to avoid selling at a low price if bids don't go high enough or what? Kind of defeats the point of an auction if the seller can just cancel it. Any way to do anything about this?

(Sorry if this is wrong thread for this post and feel free to relocate if necessary)

Re Ebay cancellations...

Either what they said is true or they found a buyer locally. I suspect it saves on listing fees or some such.

Just a SWAG on my part as I've not sold very much there.

Personally, I don't have a problem when auctions are cancelled before they end. The reason could be exactly what was claimed: an error or damage. It could also be a local sale, a change of heart on selling the item, bid frequency or amounts less than the seller anticipated, etc... In any case, since there was no conclusion on these, it's really a no-harm-no-foul outcome IMHO. I certainly do have a problem when the seller cancels after a listing ends and payment is made. In ALL those cases, I leave negative feedback if I am the high bidder.

^^^ That... Many will list locally too, or if they see a low number of views / watchers they will cancel the auction and later put it as BIN...

I don't care as long as they don't try to retract AFTER the auction ends. I've never had one do that thankfully. I have had a couple contact me on BIN items, but it was when I was buying the "last one" from an original large quantity and they couldn't find it. No big deal there, a refund and I just bought from someone else.

Thanks for the helpful perspectives! The thing that got me wondering is that some of the listings were routine listings of new items the sellers practically always have multiple auctions going for. So it seems a little odd they would cancel some of the auctions while others are still going. . .

I was tempted, but then seen the seller had 0% feedback so I'm guessing it's a scam

Over the years I have had it happen a couple of time (maybe 4) where the live auction was cancelled in the last minute. In those cases it was the seller using the cancel feature as a 'reserve' without paying for the "reserve price" and it is massively annoying. It hasn't happened in years so perhaps the canceling process is not as easy as it used to be.

Oh well, it was worth a try for that price. I used pay after delivery with paypal, so if it's not here by the date it says, I won't pay anything anyway.

I've never heard of pay after delivery, how do you choose that option? I use the eBay app and I've never seen it before.

It was probably a CC scam and your stuff will be drop-shipped from some supplier... If anyone gets their item post where it came from... Should be interesting...

eBay / PayPal puts a hold on funds for new users anyhow, I don't understand why they try this as they don't get paid for like a week.

Log into your paypal account (via website), click on "Benefits & Offers" at the top. Scroll down and you will see a button to "activate" that benefit and it tells you how it works and everything.

i got a ship notice late last night. i wonder if i will automatically get my money refunded, or if i need to wait the week it said shipment would take?

Did you get a shipping verification number, or a notice that the seller has marked the item as "shipped"? I had someone recently try and scam me this way, it drags out the purchase time and increases the chance they get the funds.

i got a notice that it had shipped, but i cannot find it. ebay has it marked as shipped, delivery by saturday. they also note that the seller is not on ebay anymore.

dont know, we shall see what happens. if i dont get anything, ebay/paypal will make it right.

That's basically all I got, and I also got a "delivered by" date. I was pretty annoyed since I dropped $300 on an item, but in the end eBay did follow through on their buyer protection guarantee.

From what I understand, if the seller cancels the auction before it ends, the seller still has to pay selling fees

well, after not receiving anything on saturday, i started a claim with ebay on monday.

got email today, the seller responded (but i dont know what they said) and ebay decided that the seller couldn't prove they sent anything, so they have refunded the 15.99$

the dream was good while it lasted:)

eBay has been doing some off & on... I dunno as I haven't had anything big I've wanted to buy lately. People have also been posting new threads for the eBay deals so I don't know because I only have this thread subscribed and I don't often browse the hot deals section.

I would think they would do something with father's day coming up so keep an eye out then.
