Not sure why you're finding this to be such a hardship. Go to my ebay, in the purchase history. each item is going to have a drop down menu on the far right. on each one, click Report a problem. pick Item not as described for each one. shouldn't take more than a few minutes, total. you will get your money back, all of it.

She's played this game before. I've already invested too much time already. The navigation of the site just to open a case is a royal PITA.

Sadly, it's one of the major downfalls of the system. No different than sending you an unsigned check or an IOU.

Dealt with this once when buying from Cali for a +$200 item. I asked for a contact number just in case. Weeks later no response. I called/annoyed/lawyered up enough to warrant the seller to send the item many weeks after the sale.

If I can't talk to the seller him or herself prior to shipping and get proper address and contact number, I rescind the deal.

No human contact . No deal . Simple .
Need voice and need digits and addy.

Liars gonna lie.
The interwebz just makes it easier.

Yes, I know insurance is for the seller. This seller tried to lay the responsibility on me. I told her I would let ebay arbitrate it. I escalated and was refunded almost immediately. They must be working in India or China today.

For EBay, insurance is for the seller and the seller is responsible for the item getting to the buyer in condition won. Give the seller a chance to make it right then open a dispute if needed. Usually the lost items are from a package not packed well enough for the weight or sharp objects inside. USPS doesn’t take responsibly for items without insurance.

To the OP were you given the option to insure your shipment?

I've sold about 8 $40+ items on here recently and I've given the buyer the option to pay for insurance. I always felt that once it is out of my hands I have no control of the package so I can't be responsible for what USPS does to it. They are getting paid to do a job, if they failed at doing there job, that's not my problem. Also, I don't know what knind of area a person lives in. For all I know the mail person could of delivered it and while my buyer was at work, his neighbor could of stolen it.
I guess that since I grew up with my parents owning a business I saw too many times where the busines owner has to "eat" something that was totaly out of there control and not there fault.

Glad to read that they refunded.

It's the standard priority mail cardboard flat envelope. Should have been strong enough for the three Knippex pliers inside. USPS clearly at fault.

Those envelopes are really designed for paper, and using them to ship tools is asking for trouble. There are ways to significantly reinforce these, but it's hardly worth the big effort. Sometimes I think the guys in the PO think you're scamming their system when you put a couple lbs of tools in a flat rate envelope, and they make an extra effort to destroy them. My USPS loss rate dropped significantly when I stopped using these. The new padded envelopes are much better.

I believe eBay rules now say you can't charge buyers extra for insurance. If a seller wants to insure an item, they either build it into the shipping charge, or eat the cost.
