Ebay Scam? Shipping raised after bid won ..

I bid $5.00 for an antique brace drill, and the seller lists the shipping to my area code as $9.60 . . (ebay shipping calculator??)

I win the bid and get an invoice for $14.60, and shortly after an email from the seller saying "whoops the shipping calculator was wrong. Shipping is $24" !!!!!

WTF?

I have tried communicating with the seller, but all I have recieved is a revised invoice for $30!

Am I at fault for not double checking the shipping cost before bidding? Do I have any recourse?

"Report this seller" ... Go do it. If you used paypal, report the transaction over there, too.

Don't even accept it at the lower price. If the seller was willing to try to cheat you with shipping fees, then who knows what else he might pull.

If there was a screwup with the shipping calculator, the seller should eat it, imho. I've had it happen to me where I sold items and listed a ship price and it was wrong. I ate the difference.

That was what I was wondering ... sometimes shipping out of country can get expensive ... not sure who's fault for the mis-quoted shipping charge ..

Talk to the seller, if email isn't working click the contact thing from the member profile and call them up.

The seller is obliged to ship at the price listed in the auction, but may not see it that way. They may not be aware of practical shipping options.

Give us a link, maybe something in the listing will be helpful.

Often the tidiest way to resolve a problem like this is mutually canceling the auction.

I just purchased some Snap-on screwdrivers from an Ebay vendor. He E-mails me he overcharged me on shipping and refunded $8 to my account. Different people do different things.

I have refunded a handful of accidental (on their part and mine) over-payments of shipping charges. Some were combined shipping, and some were ones that I mis-typed or hit a drop down list that I didn't intend to. Not once have i heard a "thanks", but it was the right thing to do, so I did it.

Its amazing how many ebay sellers screw up, and refuse to eat the cost of their mistake. Losing a few dollars on a sale here and there is the cost of doing business. This kind of stuff really makes me angry.

That is a pretty poor seller. I have sold stuff here and there and messed up before on things, and ALWAYS credit to the side of the buyer. Otherwise you risk a reputation for a few dollars. Not worth it.

He can put that brace in a flat rate box for $9.00 if it fits. That's pure BS.

Sellers who charge crazy shipping are trying to screw the customer, screw ebay on fees or both.
