I typically avoid doing business with anyone under 98% positive feedback, but now I’m probably changing that to 99%.
I recently purchased a rare utility knife from a seller on 02/02. I had to email the seller on 02/08 to inquire if it had been shipped. Seller responded it would ship 02/09 and it arrived on the 12th. It took him 1 full week to ship. USPS got it to me faster than he got it to them. I left a positive feedback, but did mention the slow shipping in my comment. He emailed me all bent out of shape, so I presented the facts in my response and told him to reconsider his business model since his 98.7% feedback rating appeared to be a direct result of slow shipping times or not receiving item at all.
I sell on eBay and ship within 1-2 business days, but usually next business day. I then track all of my shipped packages and if the post office is running behind, I attempt to contact the buyer and inform them of this so there’s a good line of communication opened. This has netted me good results when a shipment is delayed and most people are very understanding.
If a seller does have one or two negative /neutral feedbacks, it is important to give them the benefit of the doubt. You can usually read the feedback comments and put together the pieces of the puzzle and figure out whether that negative feedback was warranted. Some people leave negative feedback without ever contacting the seller and working towards a resolution. Some people leave negative feedbacks because of the silliest stuff… things that aren’t necessarily the sellers fault. There are some goofy people in this world who should have never been given internet access and a keyboard.
I once had a buyer leave me an angry, negative feedback because a re-pop automotive gas & oil sign I sold was “heavily over sprayed, junk”. Well, I’m not the factory in China who made it. My pictures were clear as day. If he didn’t like it, I would have refunded his money and told him to keep the item. But rather than contact me, explain his unhappiness with the transaction and give me a chance to rectify the situation, the dude had to be a ****… his negative feedback didn’t hurt me as much as it made him look completely angry and stupid, and I kept the $20.
Most buyers and sellers on eBay are honest, good people. There’s a few dodo’s out there. Just be careful and use your best judgement.
