SK Wayne Socket set

Last week I was pretty excited to come across an Sk Wayne socket set similar to the ones grandpa used to have. This is the photo from the ad and the description.

When I received the package this is what I got. I was immediately worried.

Luckily the case is mostly undamaged. It was wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap. However the box was large enough that sockets moving around broke one of the tabs inside the box that holds the sockets. Also the appx 4 pieces missing turned into 9. There were duplicates of 2 sockets, 3 of one socket and one that didn't go with the set 45114. The seller stated he was including 2 extras 45124 and 45126 which were not included.

All in all I'm not unhappy with the item so I won't be returning it but I am unhappy with the inaccurate description and poor handling so I left negative feedback.

I'm missing the following items if anybody has them and wants to part with them let me know!

What a shame that it got damaged in shipment.

Which carrier was used to ship ??? UPS / FedEx / USPS ???

That is terrific old SK set that will clean up nice. Let's SEE pics of how the set looks now that you have received it.

Good luck finding the missing pieces.

Nice find, but ***** about the damage/missing tools. I have been very lucky with recent ebay purchases including a CM block grinder that was packed in way that any damage would have been almost impossible.

Did you communicate with seller at all before dropping the negative on him?

I don't disagree that all those problems adds up to a negative, but there should have been the chance to make it right. You both could be better off in the end.

The eBay member has automatic responses set up. The only remedy it gave was a return/refund for an item that was damaged or inaccurate description.

Usps 3 day priority. The carrier was not really at fault here. It should have been packaged in an appropriate sized box so the items couldn't slide around.

Here are some quick photos of the sockets. Some of the items appear to be unused. Others are going to need some work to make them presentable. Overall I'm really happy with the item. Just unhappy with the transaction.

And the broken tab. All of the tabs that weren't protected by the 1/4 Dr socket channel were bent down and the last one was broken.

Same tab looks bent down/loose in the original picture..
Good eye. You are correct. When I opened the package the next 3 were bent flat like that one and that one was broken off. Luckily the others bent back without breaking. I would tack that one back on but I don't want to burn the paint.

Granted, the seller should've padded the interior of the box to minimize movement but isn't the original picture exactly what you received? He didn't pull a switcheroo from what I see.

Sure what I saw in the photo is what I got except for the superficial damage to tabs. Can you read the item numbers on the individual sockets and verify they're what goes with the set? I couldn't, so I relied on the description given. That description said there were 4 pieces missing from the set and gave item numbers for the extras he would include. There were in fact 9 pieces missing. There were duplicates 40914 and 40908. There were 3 of 40909. And the two extras he listed by item number that he would include were not included. So rather than an 85% complete set I got a 64% complete set.

I'm sure I should have emailed the seller prior to bidding and asked for an itemized list of the contents. That's on me. He gave a false description. That's on him.

He did state approximately 4 pieces were missing. You really should have asked if you were that concerned about the part numbers. The picture is a part of the description. If he sent you exactly what was in the pic, how is it not what you bought?

You state "I'm really happy with the item" yet you still complain and leave the guy negative feedback? If not happy, should've sent it back and got a refund.

I would however have an issue with the two pieces specifically mentioned by part number not being included.

You and I will have to agree to disagree. There is a large difference between 4 and 9 when you're only talking about a 25 piece set and that's not quite covered by approximately to me. He took the time to claim he was throwing in 2 extra parts. Why not say anything about the duplicates? Including duplicates in the photos and not disclosing it is deceptive at best.

Yes they were IMHO. No reason for a box to show up like it had been dropped out of the back of a truck and punted by the vehicle that followed. Having said that, when I ship, I pack things solidly sometimes even with small cut to fit pieces of wood paneling. I shipped some shock abosrbers once and one got ejected out of the end of the original box that it came in. They found it 2 weeks later. My buyer was pissed as hell. Can't blame him so I pack like it's going to Afghanistan.

The box could look like it does from all the pounding that it took from the toolbox moving around.

I figured by now folks would do a better job of communicating with the seller to ensure that they pack this stuff correctly, and not just leave it up to chance.

Well the seller has contacted me and is going to issue a refund. That's solid customer service.

Re: SK Wayne Socket set

Well here is the set after removing the rust and degreasing. I've relocated the duplicates to my random socket drawer. I have 5 replacements on the way from a member here and the spark plug socket coming from eBay.

I also have one socket not pictured that is still in evaporust. It was a random that was rolling around in my toolbox.
