eBay tool/jack purchase advice needed

I recently won a Snap On 2 ton jack in need of service on eBay for the opening price of $38. The seller had also included a shipping amount of $70. I wrote the seller questioning the accuracy of the shipping as I was concerned they might be able send an invoice with a revised amount. I also did express a little concern and/ or empathy as I'd hate to see a seller lose his/her shirt on a $38 sale. The seller agreed to find out the accurate shipping and get back to me.

Within a few hours the seller attempted to cancel the transaction through the system, without even getting back to me. When I wrote asking about it he said his local UPS quoted about $100 where shipping through eBays shipping partnere method would have been appx $60 ( these numbers were for the jack body alone, with additional cost for the handle). I was never given an accurate total or dimensions to attain my own quote.

A) Do I have any recourse to get a fair and accurate quote or pay exactly what was quoted, and B) is the jack even worth it to pursue? Good condition US floor jacks are hard to come by near me (rebuild needed or not).

What would you do?

I'd leave him a negative feedback.

Nothing you can do....just be happy he canceled it & you got a refund, instead of waiting for weeks for an eBay claim to go through when it never showed.

That's the problem with inexperienced sellers: they frequently (and perhaps innocently) underestimate shipping costs.

Personally I'd accept his offer to cancel the sale. Don't leave feedback. But that's mostly because I'm in a good mood tonight.

Unfortunately with 700+ feed backs it would be hard to chalk it up to a rookie error. I do believe though he underestimated cost, but think he's trying to cancel mainly from a I didn't get my price perspective.

You should have paid the $70. If the seller loses money, it's his/her fault. I've lost money that way. ***** but no fault of the buyer.
