ebay torque wrenches

Saw these on ebay what do you guys think? I'm kinda in the matrket for a 1/2 drive torque wrench and these were fairly cheap.

I was expecting to click on some chinese made ****, but those are real USA made Precision Instruments torque wrenches!! Buy them!!

The only thing that got my attention in the precision torque wrench auction listing was the phrase "reconditioned to like new functionality". What the hell does that mean? I like and own Precision Instruments torque wrenches. It's definitely a good price. Although, I prefer the split beam type for 250 ftlbs because, it's alot faster to set with the little wheel than turning the handle. Good luck in your quest,

Both are very good torque wrenches, CDI is owned by Snap-On and Precision makes some torque wrenches for Snap-On (split beam). The best part is that they are current calibration, and in a case. I'd consider both very good deals.

They are rebuilt by the Team Torque company that is the real deal, I'm sure they will be 100% I either send my wrenches to them or to Proto to get checked and repaired. I would by a wrench from them anyday.

Only thing that bothers me about buying items like torque wrenches from eBay is the type of care that was given to it by it's PO. I bought a Mcmaster-Carr branded 1/2" click type that looked brand new, came in it's original case, and had a calibration cert about 2 years old. Sure enough, the first time I put some torque on it I realized it was stripped out.

This is why these torque wrenches are worth the extra money, they have been inspected, cleaned and recalibrated by a torque wrench specialist company, who then remarkets them with a warranty. Its the closest thing to new.

Definitely be careful about buying used torque wrenches on eBay, I bought a small one once and it couldn't be calibrated as it had been overtorqued. Fortunately the seller was nice about it and allowed me to return it.

In this case if the wrenches have already been calibrated you should be all set. Any time you buy a used torque wrench you really should verify its calibration, unless you like stripping stuff.

I got an old 1/2" drive 0-150 ft/lbs CDI light indicating dial torque wrench last year for $28. Someone had left the battery in it which had leaked but I cleaned it up & soldered in a new wire & it works fine now. Seams to be fairly accurate compared to my old beam model. I only use it for the bolts that hold the rear wheel on my bike & car lug nuts.
