Anyone got an Echo Battery Saw? Looks like they have bested DeWalt in some tests. I have Hitachi battery tools and a GreenWorks saw that needs some work. Thinking about just getting a new saw with a spare battery.

Anyone have an Echo? What model? Likes? Dislikes?

I bought one and used it one time and it died on me after 5 minutes of use and I took it back to Home Depot for a refund. Now I only have gas powered chain saws. I was limbing an oak I had cut down with a gas chain saw, so it wasn't even used on the bigger stuff. It just shut down and would not come back on. I would not give it a stellar review. I have Echo gas powered chainsaws and they are excellent.

SEMO - MOARK Line
Have two of them, the 58-V 16" bar (CS500) and the new 56-V 18" bar (DCS5000).

They're both fantastic saws.

Echo has discontinued the 58v volt line and the 56v batteries are quite a bit smaller, which makes it an upgrade. I would only consider the 56v line going forward, as the 58v batteries have mixed reviews (although I have 3 and have never had an issue). I will use the 58v (trimmer, edger, and chainsaw) until they don't work and then I'll move exclusively to the 56v.

In the 56v line, I have the chainsaw and the lawnmower. The mower is fantastic, cuts very nice, easy to use.

I have both the 12" dewalt and the 16" dewalt chainsaws (20v/60v) as well. The 12" serves a different purpose than the Echos, and I just got the 16" 60v dewalt saw and haven't yet used it. The Dewalt saws are great for what I use it for (cutting small limbs, bbq wood).

Any more questions?

In guess I got a lemon, but it made a poor impression on me on battery powered chain saws. The gas saws I have are way more powerful. I can see the battery ones being okay for smaller stuff, but not cutting down good size trees. I do have some battery powered equipment, but I went with Ego. I have not had any issues with them. I have two Echo gas powered chain saw and a gas-powered weed eater and all are great power tools. I want to move away from gas, but I feel there are certain power tools where gas is superior. Other tools like hedge trimmers, weed eaters, some leaf blowers, batter power works fine. I just don't feel it cuts the mustard on heavy duty chain saw work.

The Echo battery saws are at the top of the Consumer Reports recommended list and also the Project Farm test results

It wouldn't be at the top of my list based on my experience with it. Going dead after 5 minutes of light use is not a stellar report.

Probably a defective battery. Most have a protection circuit in the battery itself that could cause a shutdown. Had a similar experience with the first group of DeWalt 20v I bought. One died the second time it was charged. I've had and have several since with no more issues.

Can happen to any brand. Bad IC chip can take down saws, drills computers printers etc.
