I find in my area stihl has more service locations if that is ever needed. Echo being sold at home depot kind of steers me away. I do have a echo trimmer 225gt for five years that is good though. Just with similar prices I feel stihl have better easier to start motors.

i have had my SRM 230 for close to 5 years as well. never a single problem. 2 or 3 pulls and it always starts.

i been looking on the echo website and i see they have 3 handhelds. not sure what all the diff in them are other then low noise opt and diff tubes.

Check for problems with the model you are considering before you buy. I love Echo products but my handheld blower has problems causing the timing to be retarded (either a bad coil, or a bad flywheel keyway). Happened past the warranty period. Was cheaper to replace with a bottom of the line Stihl, which I also love.

Check out all the major brands in your area first. Most of these manufactures, Echo included have had to make major downgrades to them for price. Also the new Government regs are killing the performance on some models.. Just been through this and bought a Huskvarna instead.

I have had a PB251 for years. No trouble at all.

I’m fully invested in Echo equipment, it has done right by me for years.

My edger is over 20 years old, my line trimmer was a wedding gift (16 years, this month), and a few other tools as well.

I liked my Echo that lasted 13 years or so.

My 3 yr old Stihl is kind of finicky on cold start, probably due to EPA emissions or something, it runs great once going.

The handheld Mikita we have at work would be my favorite, and its 4 stroke too!

Echo blower's can be had for about $150 right now with all the sales.

Two door ignition is lifetime warranty, go to an authorized dealer (not home Depot) or call golden eagle if you got that line from a dealer.

what echo should i go with out of the 3 they have?

PB-250LN or PB-2520 or PB-255LN

im thinking the PB-2520 but not really sure. dont really understand the differences between them other then shape of tube and low noise opt. all 3 seem to have the same motor.

all 3 do have the same motor, LN series run a little bit lower RPMs at full idle so the run quieter and thus the difference in the tubes. You will also want the tube with a bit of twist in it, eases the strain in the wrist, echo dealers will have this option for you.

I have the 255 for the past few years. I really like it. Quieter and better made than the craftsman it replaced. Highly recommend. However I just switched to the Milwaukee m18 blower and it’s not quiet as powerful but pretty close. And you don’t smell like 2 cycle gas when you are done.

does the LN series reduce power in some way compared to the a non-LN one?

Get a backpack blower. Much easier on the hands.

i have no need for backpack for my needs. be way over kill. all the handhelds id had do fine but im tired of them taking a **** every 2 years so time to upgrade since my last to home grade ones didnt last for ****.

any reason you went with the 255 over the other two?

I have a 5 yrs old Stihl handheld blower thats been fine but I think anything from echo will be fine too. I bought an echo hedge trimmer and string trimmer last yr so its too early to tell how they do in the long run. Bought echo because my son uses them in his landscape business and praises them.

Check the echo web site for dealer promotions before you buy...I saved 20% off list from the local echo dealer.

25 year old pb2300. One carb overhaul and fuel grommet/hose/filter kit, has been the only repair. Current models are visually identical.

Unless you have a large property and will run it for hours at a time, backpack style is likely overkill.

Excellent equipment.

If I remember correctly they narrow the tube to pick the wind speed back up but honestly I haven't ever noticed a lack of power with the LN series

Both the Echo and the Stihl are nice blowers. I would argue that the Stihl is a little better than the Echo since the BG86 has a easier starting procedure and a anti-vibration isolated handle which is nice if you are using it for a long time. I would base your decision on which brand has better dealer support in your area. If you buy the Echo please support your local dealer do not buy it from Home Depot.
