Economical Window options for barn / garage?

I am looking for economical window options for my barn build. singe or double hung are preferred and none of them need to be energy efficient since the space will not be climate controlled. It seems difficult to find a cheap window when you ask a commission sales rep so I figure I would post here to see if there are specific makes / models I should ask about.

I built a small barn as 2 car garage with some storage. 28 x32. 19 windows - iirc $75 or so each - barn sash. Mine are fixed but could be hinged. White vinyl. 22" wide so fit between 2x6 24" o.c. - no headers or jacks. I'll try to post pictures later today.

Years ago, a friend of mine used the fixed side of a sliding door mounted sideways for a nice panoramic view window, but of course, it didn't open.

I've done both things already mentioned, vinyl barn sash for smaller fixed windows, and the glass from a free patio door set horizontally above a workbench in a garage. Both worked well.

Our local lumber yard has a spot out back that has mis-ordered / not picked up windows. You might ask at your local lumberyard.

Home Depot carries a few awning type Anderson low E, vinyl exterior, spec windows. They keep them in stock most of the time. They are a bargain for what you get. I will be installing (6) 36" X 24" in my building project this spring.

I was going to suggest if the OP had any local window manufacturers and inquire about the same.

Most big box stores will mark down stuff returned or when switching to a new manufacturer.

Menards, or, alternatively, I found good mis-ordered windows at a local millwork / home center outlet store.

Might have trouble finding more than a couple windows that match there, though, but they were incredibly inexpensive for high quality windows.

Yes, always check local suppliers for "oops" windows and doors.

Check your local lumber yard / home improvement center for a barn sash. They typically come without a frame so you'd have to fabricate that yourself, and are fixed unless you add some hinges, but they're pretty cheap. No idea where you are located but is there a Habitat for Humanity ReStore near you? They might have some decent windows that are inexpensive.

As others have mentioned, look for something that was donated/misordered, removed from a renovation. 2nd hand/Restore/Salvage places, speciality window dealers generally have boneyard piles, Facebook marketplace and Craigslist for stuff pulled out of a renovation but still acceptable for what you need

We have a local hardware store that sells and installs Energy Efficient Windows, the old windows that are taken out are returned to the store. They sit outside next to the Dumpster waiting for someone to come and pick them up. If nobody hauls them away they are put into the Dumpster and then smashed. The compacted mess is hauled to the landfill.

Free Windows can be good.

Some photos of Menards PVC barn sash - 22x41 51/16. A little over $50. Very pleased except my poor airless sprayer work.

These are fixed. I did something similar with previous garage build but used wood and spar varnished them and mounted on hinges on one side. I probably wouldn't do spar again - looked great but need recoating every other year.

If you're willing to do a bit of adapting, the multi-layer greenhouse polycarbonate sheeting can be used to fabricate robust shatter-proof windows. They're not completely transparent, so there's no view, just light, but that can be a win sometimes.
