Edco TC-10 Problems -

I just bought a gas powered Edco TC-10. This thing looked to be in great shape, really clean on the exterior. I bought it on EBAY to replace an electric unit i have. I went to pick it up at a tool rental building (didn't know this when it was listed on ebay). At the rental place, I started it, and looked it over, everything seemed okay. I got it to my shop, and changed the oil. I also replaced the belts that were worn out...

Now the problems, I took the tool to a job I had going on. It was a residential garage with fairly soft concrete. I used the segmented diamond blade on the machine to remove an existing epoxy coating from the floor. It was a little aggressive for the soft concrete but had no problems removing the coating. The blade on the machine was fairly worn when I got it, so i used it until the segments got thin. This is where the problem showed. One of my segments wore out long before the others indicating the head wasn't spinning level. I had some new blades on hand so I replaced the old blade. Once I ran the machine again it became very obvious how bad this was. The grinder was gouging into the concrete making very deep swirls. I stopped the machine again and inspected it. It appears that the head it bent or out of adjustment (if their is any).

Any advice is welcome -

I like this tool, but not when i cant use it.

Also i know a clean tool at a rental place = not used, and the only reason they don't use something is if its broke.

I also have EBAY to fall back on to get a refund.

From the owners manual -

"Each new machine is shipped with a RIGID HEAD (FLEX HEAD OPTIONAL) 10”/255 mm factory balanced disk.
It is important to maintain the coupling to which the disk is attached. A worn coupling, damaged bearings or a bent
shaft will cause the grinding discs to wear unevenly. (Figure 9 rigid head assembly & 9A fl ex head assembly.) It is
important to note FLEX HEAD for smooth fl at surfaces, RIGID HEAD for buckled, bumpy or rough surfaces."

Thanks guys ... It is a TG-10

We tried the mechanic route. The owner of the rental place got very defensive and strongly insisted that I bought it as is. He said that he wasn't going to look at it or have any more involvement with the grinder. I found this odd since I wasn't asking him to take it back, just to show me how they were setting the machine up.

JamieK - Great information. I should have looked their first. Thanks for the leg work.

Unfortunately, it sounds like a previous renter dropped it off the back of a truck and bent the shaft. Should be pretty easy to verify this with a dial indicator.

Garage-Tech, start a resolution on Ebay.
You should at the very least get a credit for the repair or part of it.

Don't delay and make sure you let Ebay know you tried to work it out directly with the seller.

Jamie - My thoughts exactly, and the tool rental place tried to pawn it off on someone.

Legacy, I opened the case yesterday. I'm pretty disappointed though. My electric 10inch grinder is just about shot, this thing wont grind flush, and I have to wait for the EBAY claims to sort this mess out...My business is on hold
