If you're like me and have missed Edd China since he left Wheeler Dealers, you might enjoy the pilot of his new show where he helps revive a 1983 VW Golf GTI with a pretty basic toolkit.

Edd China's Garage Revival Program...

Good to see the old Edd back.

I like Edd too. He was the only reason I watched Wheeler Dealers. But I felt underwhelmed by the first episode of the new show. Also there is no way that was original paint on the GTI.

Have to watch this tonight! Have really high hopes for this show, since Edds reason for quitting what that Wheeler dealers would be to much "filler" and too little workshop. I hate all vehicle realted shows on TV, no real content just reality TV type stuff.

Wow, thanks for posting this. Since Edd left the show I haven't really been tuning in.

I kind of agree with you TjoFrasse. I still have my favorite car shows, but it's nice to take a break from all the overly customized custom customs and just get back to basics. Kind of like MotorWeek, no song and dance, no BS, just the facts....

I am easily amused, I guess. I liked Edd but I like Ant, too. He has some impressive fabricating skills. I'll look for the new Edd pilot.

Looks like Ant is getting some flipping action on the side (real estate maybe).

I liked Edd China on WD, but I like Ant better. He seems to have a broader range of skills and whines less.

I watched Edd's Garage Revival pilot, and expected something more involved and more entertaining than installing a headliner and partially and haphazardly installing an engine in a Rabbit. He also didn't address other needed changes to the braking system when upgrading rear drum brakes to disks.

This seems to be a lame version of Garage Squad. It also informed me of the fact that Norway is no place for a car enthusist, especially from the US, with our deeply entrenched hotrod tradition. The show definitely dragged and in retrospect I think Wheeler Dealers came out the better for it. There are no hotels in that town because there is no good reason to go there. If a hotdog in waffle is the best they got........

Interesting Ed China Story.

I was working at the AAPEX/SEMA show some years ago. Wheeler Dealers was still airing w/ Ed.

My wife come to Vegas with me since I was doing back to back tradeshows and away from home for over 2 weeks. She happens to be visiting the booth at APPEX when Ed walks up the isle.

A co-worker who was a bit of a prankster, realizes who Ed was...walks to him, points to my wife and goes..."Shes a huge fan and loves your show, can I take a picture of you two"

My wife not knowing what's going on, half confused gets in the picture. He's towering over her, asks he what her favorite episode was...."uhhhh i don't know." Mortifying, yet funny.

He was a nice guy in person. Really tall too.

It was a DIY Pilot, looking to get picked up from a station or whatever. I give em major props and its interesting to see how car guys have to deal with legal issues around the world. Hey at least in Norway you won't have idiots welding exhaust tube into an ex-skeleton car and killing themselves/endangering others. I imagine he would travel around europe helping people finish projects. What's better is them not having literally every tool for every job. It's realistic, not all shade tree mechanics have a million dollar shop to build hot rods in. You want more american choppers, tune to discovery, they're full of that stuff.

I saw Edd's new show on the YouTube link posted in the original post and I liked it. I felt it wasn't a waste of time.

Seeing it for the first time, I took it as a totally different perspective towards working on a vehicle. I may be wrong about this but appears as though Edd's new show is based on going around Europe (possibly?...or maybe around the world? :dunno:) helping out actual viewers who have sent in request for help on either restoring, repairing or up-grading their vehicles?

It all remains to be seen but still I liked the show. As long as it doesn't start getting stupid and goofy like those other shows (Bitchin' Rides, Garage Squad, Junkyard Cars, etc. and all the rest of those stupid dumb *** shows) really not worth my time anymore.

I think it's better than those other waste full, nonsense garage car shows that then get goofy and stupid all for tv entertainment ratings.

I still do like Wheeler Dealers though but don't really watch it all the time, just whenever I do get the chance.

Edd's new show may not be for everyone but I'm sure there are many that will definitely follow it due to the fact Edd is an informative mechanic that many follow and appreciate. I know I do.

As for the new guy on Wheeler Dealers, I've found him just as informative as when Edd originally was on the show. No complaints.

Now is Edd's new show only on YouTube or is it actually on the Velocity network channel?....or what other network channel?

If so then, more or less, does anyone know what are the times that the show actually comes up on?

EDIT NOTE: found this YouTube video interesting. Gives more perspective into why Edd left the show....but keep in mind, when viewing it, that this is just one side of the story from one person. There's always two sides to every story and it really takes hearing both sides to pass judgement.

then there's this.....

It just depends on what type of auto enthusiast you are... I remember seeing these Arctic trucks in a show and they were pretty ba.

Edd also goes cheap on tools. That dial indicator set in the red box appears to be the generic no-name Chinese set that is all over ebay for around $35.

Agreed - I just don't see any value in watching grown men run around the shop shooting each other with water guns, or whatever stunt they're perpetuating in the name of entertainment. Most of these shows are heavy on "personality" and a little light on technical content.

Europe - especially Scandinavian countries have a rich car culture. Rally driving was practically invented there. The U.S. is not "deeply entrenched in hotrods". Maybe your generation, but most people I know are into all kinds of stuff. The only car meets and shows I see hot rods at these days are dedicated hot rod/classic American shows.

You need to realize that your own tastes in cars are not a reflection of everyone else in this country.

Who cares at all what kind of dial indicator he has, especially given what he's doing with it? I have a cheap $30 dial indicator too, and it's great for dirty automotive stuff. I use it to set up differentials, because it's good enough and I don' really care if it gets covered in oil/dirt or if it breaks.

I'm not going to take my $600 Mahr micron dial indicator attached to a $150 hydraulic mag base out into my garage so it can get ruined. I'm certainly not going to waste my time sticking it onto my old, dirty car to measure brake rotor run out when my $30 cheapo indicator is more than up to the task.

I watched the pilot episode last week. It was a welcomed addition to the very few programs I watch. I’m so ******** tired of the shows like Gas Monkey and Graveyard Carz where all they do is **** around the entire episode and not show anything of real substance. I enjoy learning how to repair a vehicle, even if it’s a vehicle I’ve never owned or would never own. Thanks, Edd for doing what you do.

Edd is the real deal, not some front for selling expensive tools.
Two points on the video:
I always use a bit of soapy water when installing rubber lipped windshields. Helps a lot.
The dial indicator reads in 1/100 mm between each graduation. So the runout was around 3/100 of a millimeter , NOT 3/1000. Easy enough to say the wrong thing if you are raised on inches ( which probably Edd was)

All in all, real people working on affordable cars.
Great guys.

Graveyard Cars just started going down this road this past season. He did a refresh a couple years back because of viewers complaining about the asshattery that was going on. It's kind of turned me off to the show as well.
Ok, Mark. We understand you're a funny guy. But we don't give a **** about your humor. Show us the restos and quit jumping the shark.

I was an avid watcher of Graveyard Cars but had several episodes backed up on my DVR and instead of watching them I decided to just delete them and quit recording new ones. The old format with Josh and Darrin was frustrating because they screwed around too much and never got anything done. The refresh was better and I think Mark can be pretty funny but I had several issues with the new format too. His joking with Will got a bit annoying, the music is too loud and makes the show draining to watch, and I could do without his daughter on the show.

I can appreciate the daughter being there, but to learn the trade and how to run the business. It will be hers one day according to Mark. But the shenanigans between her and Will is just a distraction from what the show is about.
Taking Dads new low mileage Challenger without his permission, another waste of air time.

I disagree with some of the comments. The new guy Ant has an eye for detail and the nut and bolt rebuilds of classic cars he has been involved with in past years, some through his company, fetch very strong money at auction.

I always liked Edd. He had some great tips, and was all about encouraging people to do the most with the tools they had. Even when he used some gizmo, he often told you how to manage without!

I like Ant too, I think he’s a decent bloke and undoubtedly has some good skills, but Wheeler Dealers always suffered from too much ‘filler’, namely all the pretence that it was all about making money (the sort of bull that these channels seem to love) when in reality it was all about what the average guy could do in his garage to save a few quid!

The early moves to ‘Americanise’ the show were laughable, but then it became a succession of one American car after another. I appreciate that U.S. viewers want to see U.S. vehicles, but there are a host of other shows that offer this, and if you have to, film a U.S. edition!

As for what it’s turned into, well I’ve already heard Ant saying ‘here’s the engine back from the rebuilders’ which put’s me firmly in the Edd China camp as regards the direction the show has taken!

I wish Edd all the best and hope that we can have a show that’s entirely about sorting out a car, without all the artificial deadlines, false jeopardy or spending half the show talking about ‘the deal’!

I wish WD would return to focusing on UK/EU cars; they are much more varied and interesting!

I enjoyed it, simply because I like Edd. It did nothing new, and the use of the H-D logo and colours was unfortunate. I'm sure if someone picks it up, that will be the first to go.

Yeah, He walks in and asks if its original paint, and the owner says yes... But at the end of the episode they clearly show old photos of the car while in its process of body repair and paint..
Maybe the owner thought he was asking "is that the original color?"

Hes always seemed sort of against nice tools... I thought it was always interesting that he would use a standard combo wrench (or Spanner!) to get a bolt off, when most modern mechanics own a set of gear wrenches.. He seems to intentionally go for the regular combo wrench. He even told the owner of the Gti on this pilot episode that he was "cheating" when he was turning a bolt with a gear wrench and Edd was using a non ratcheting on the other side of the motor mount

In the very first series, he used what were presumably his own tools. Mostly Snap On, and very well used.

After that they presumably picked up some sort of product placement deal as it was all Teng shite in the U.K. filmed editions, with the logo prominently shown!

Didn’t see enough of the U.S. editions to see what was used, so maybe they didn’t have a deal and just sourced some craftsman or something.
