Really can't believe this forum exists!! I built my 1000 sq ft shop last summer and Googled daily for ideas and concepts but rarely found anything helpful. Then last night I was reading an article on garages in CarCraft and they mentioned this site - it's awesome!
Mine is a drive-through*, 24x40 with 11ft walls. It has two big windows on the South Side and 2huge (11x9) automatic doors on either end. It's finished inside and I've installed a great gas heater. Creature comforts include a TV with sattelite, Stereo, fridge and my recliner! Oh and I have seperatley switched banks of lights on ceiling and both walls, a seperate 50Amp circuit, a 16 ft bench and fans on one side 9 ft up.
*By 'drive-through' I mean I can turn into this second driveway, right through the shop and exit in the lane out back...very handy for towing cars in!
So I hope I can share my experience and help someone out or maybe I'll get some ideas on further improving my shop (I already learned something about flooring!).
As well I have a web-site under construction - about the shop, my cars and my wife (a former race car driver & model), so check out the link below - Enjoy!

I'm still having trouble posting all the photo's I want, but it'll give you an idea of what's to come... Cheers!

What I think is best about my shop is the lights/electrical. I took everyones advise and set it up so as not to want later - it has 2 rows of double flourescents on the ceiling, then banks of flourescents on each wall about 6 ft up and halogens pointed at the workbench. I ran plugs along walls at 6 ft intervals, plus extras for exhaust fans and outside the doors. I have motion lights on each gable end, one over the walk-in door and spot halogens under the eve that faces the yard. I hope to get a lift next, so it can plus into the 220V, 50Amp celing plug, while my arc welder plugs into the same on the wall.

Hi workinprogress - the Z is a 71 that was a running 'parts' car for a race car I built my wife (check my link above) which was also a 71 Z with a 280 engine. I just sold the race car (boo hoo) to buy the 74 Challenger. The parts car is actually complete - save for the rust holes, so I thought I might as well get it in line for a resto! As for tuning the SU carbs (not webers unless yours were swapped out) do you have an air velocity tool? It's a simple tool you get from your Nissan dealer that allows you to balance the flow on either carb horn. Is your 75 a 240 or a 260? Let me know where you're at with yours - I've had 240's for 25 years now!

Re: Ed's Garage-Mahal/addition

Hi all,
When I built my shop, I put two 2x2ft holes on the North side for exhaust fans. It gets REALLY cold here in SK (it's currently 25below) so I don't want to put fans with louvres that would let the cold air to get in...so I was going to have a hinged insulated door that swings out of the way and a hinged fan that could swing in to the hole....of course that's easier said than engineered!! Currently I have insulated boards with handles in the holes that I manually pull out then I put a fan in the hole that is hanging beside it. Trouble with this system is it's heavy and ackward and necessitates climbin up a ladder. Anyone have any ideas for this - anything you've done??

Here's the Chally - in progress (just got the engine back!), the Galaxie (before and after) and unfortunatly, I couldn't upload the 240Z race car (with my wife who's a model and the driver on top)...but if you check the link above you'll see them.

Very nice garage and 240. I had a 240Z a number of years ago. Saskatoon, is that the north some where?

Welcome a1541, aka; doug,

This is slightly weird - your post is to an e-tek's thread which I believe was long ago abandoned. It appears it was last active in the year 2007, except for your most recent posting. Most sadly, I see posts here by autoist, who very unfortunately is no longer with us to reply.

I have seen more recent active posts from e-tek, so maybe click on his name and search for recent post to make contact.

Best of luck doug,
Cheers,

I left this thread as it was.....because it was one of Autoists last posts.....RIP
The hat he sent my son still occupies a special spot in our shop.

As for the 240Z, it now resides on a rotisserie I built (check out the thread under my name) awaiting floors and quarters. And Saskatoon - not North, but "above"! ;)
