I have a line on a couple of used Edsal cabinets. I believe they are this model.

Are they decent for daily use home shop storage? I know they aren't Stronghold's or anything, but they are the right size and the right price. I'm just not sure about the rigidity. I hate saggy shelves and doors that you have to kick shut because they are deformed from the weight.

Had one in the basement, until my brother liked it more than me. What are you planning to store in it?

Mine had a bunch of air tools on one shelf, and electric hand tools on the other, and some 1 gallon paint cans stacked in the bottom.... i would say the selves could hold 40-50lbs spread evenly across them.

I was thinking it would be nice to consolidate all my paint cans and other solvents, fluids, oil, etc in one of them. Misc stuff in the other. If I have the right model linked, it "says" 225lb capacity per shelf. If I fill it with paint, it'll push that.

20 gauge is not up to it in my opinion. Try for 16 gauge. Durham brand comes to mind.

I checked a similar 20 gauge cabinet at work today. I agree. It's pretty flimsy - not what I am after. Found another that was 18 gauge and it was decent. 16 or better would be ideal.

I have 2 of these metal "office" cabinets in my garage (a few crappy pics in my thread). I don't know the mfg, but neither are extra heavy duty. However, they are great and cheap storage! I have shelves full of paint cans (partials mostly) hardware, auto fluids, spray paint, etc... with at least 100 lbs on some of the shelves. I'm sure that's well over the weight limit and have a few shelves that started to bow, but a quick addition of scrap plywood under the goods resolved it.

If you could get high quality units for cheap, I'd say skip these. But if these are a good price and you need some great storage, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

I will try to get some pics and metal thickness this afternoon.

Great to know. I'd be real curious if they are 18 or 20 gauge. Thanks!

You can purchase standard shelves for most cabinets to replace the combination kit for general storage. The partition is intended for clothing storage.

Edsal cabinets typically require clips to support the shelves, so be careful not to lose any.

I don't know how much weight is on each of those shelves but at least 100+ on the hardware ones. Sure, I'd prefer they were heavier duty, but hard to beat the price on these types of cabinets.

I went and looked at some on Friday night. The guy had about 10 different cabinets. Edsel, All Steel, Tennesco, and Steel Case. The heaviest one he had was a big Steel Case and it was 18 guage and 36 x 24 x 78. All the others were 20.

I decided to paint it, along with 4 other cabinets I had picked up recently. I'm on a shop clean up / organization mission. Amazing what a coat of paint can do. I've got a couple Lyon cabinets coming, that I will paint the same way.

I used Rustoleum Hammered Black and Hammered Grey from quart cans. Sprayed it using HVLP gun. It sprayed pretty good and dried to the touch very fast.
