As the 4th generation on the ranch that my great grandfather operated through the depression, I've discovered the penchant my predecessors had for sliding doors on tracks for all the big openings, including my 1947 concrete tipup garage. I would be the first in my family to own an overhead garage door with an opener, on the family ranch.
The West facing side has two overlapping sliding doors. I would like to frame in the Northern Half with a man door, and install an overhead garage door on the Southern Half.
The opening I'm considering for the overhead door measures 9 ft 6 inches wide to the Southern wall, and 7 ft 6 inches tall. There is a 4x6 beam supporting the existing header that is sistered true 2x8's I believe.
In looking at openers and tracks I've determined I'll need to build a short wall at least 7 inches wide on one side to allow room for hardware. I'm curious how our DIY'er s here would frame in that opening to a size to accommodate a standard size overhead door, and Wall mounted opener.
