I am looking to frame in a 15'x20' room in my pole barn and think I have most of the details ironed out. However, I only want an 8' ceiling height inside the room but the barn has 10' walls. Obviously the new framing will help support each end of the new ceiling joists, but what is my best option for supporting the center to prevent sag? Is it as simple as running drops from the 10' joists to help support the new ones or am I missing something?

If the structure above is intended to be used as a finished ceiling, put some braces or straps from it to your new ceiling framing.
Personally, I would not put in an 8 foot ceiling if the structure allows for a 10 foot ceiling.

Even if it’s just to be used as a bar/lounge/poker room? To me the 2 extra feet is just more to condition and illuminate with no apparent benefit. Leaving it 10’ would be easier though, and I guess the savings on that 2 feet may not be worth the trouble of adding a new ceiling structure.
