Hi Folks!

Recently posted this thread about my garage insulation project and among all the options I am evaluating there is the Elastomeric White Roof.

What do you guys think about it?

If you read my Insulation project thread you can understand that I would do my possible to use the easiest, simplest and efficient solution that firstly will cool my working area under my roof during sunny days and save overhead space in the same area under my gambrel roof.

I am even thinking to proceed that way in the next few weeks... Do the white roof job, Insulate walls with standards materials or radiant in the next few weeks and wait for the summer to see how it feels under my roof. If I loose too much heat from my roof during winter I'll work more on various solution's under my roof.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Cheers
Fred

If you do this in addition to insulation, it will help. Without, not as much, I think, but it will make your shingles last longer.

it will reflect a lot of the sun off the roof and keep it cooler in the summer. I have it on a couple roofs and have noticed the difference inside on sunny days

Thanks for your feedback!

To this day I am more informed but remain totally undecided... my roof is new I am scare to damage anything, also worry to annoy my neighbors with the non flat area of my Gambrel roof. And what about Zoning? do you have to request permission to change roof color?

to cool down the temperature under my roof I am even now thinking to insulate as much as possible the vertical walls to keep the ground floor cool as possible then use few well located fans to throw fresh cool air under my attic and find a way to create a circulation of forced air up to my big roof Velux. But anyway this will cost electricity and will cook the stuff stored under my roof when fans are powered off.

Honestly I am sick at trying to find the right strategy to cool down my attic/storage/office area.

Thinking also to buy a thermal gun to experiment solutions on certain roof area.... then decide.

Will post picture anyway, a picture often equal a 1000 words :^)

UPDATE: An important white roof contractor in SOCAL refused to white my roof because it is new shingles and they won't guarantee the job on this surface unless they remove the shingles and use something else. (Too costly overall)

He said the white roof will crack very quickly on a surface such as shingles.
