Electric air compressors

I am looking at electric air compressors to power a flooring nail gun. Specs below. I need the compressor to be VERY quiet (I live in NYC) and have wheels. I am not sure what else I’m going to need the compressor for, but I don’t want to limit myself in case i find a future need.

A friend recommended California Air tools.

The sub $180 California compressors deliver 2.2 SCFM at 90PSI; minimum. And the $300 California compressor delivers 4 SCFM.

How much over the minimum should i be to be comfortable?

Any other brands that are pretty quiet?


Floor Nail gun compressor requirements:

Minimum Recommended Air Delivery SCFM @ 90PSI: 2.2
Minimum Recommended Operating Pressure (psi) 70

You need the compressor to be quiet, but will be shooting nails into the floor?
Nail guns don'e use that much air. How much over the minimum you need, will be determined by how fast you work.

I'd just get a cordless or electric gun if noise is that much of an issue.

The specs for this one and the aluminum tank are the same, but the steel tank costs $60 less. The one you choose depends on your requirements.

I love my CAT compressor and highly recommend them.

I'll second the cordless suggestion. Dewalt makes one that might be worth checking out

I’ve narrowed it down to two CAT models:

the 5510A 37.5 lbs; 1 HP, 5.5 gallon tank; aluminum tank
and the 8010 54 lbs, 1 hp, 8 gallon tank ; steel tank

Both have wheels and are the same price at home depot.

Should I be worried about rusting on the steel tank model? OR will draining the tank after each use mitigate that issue?

The dewalt 18 gauge flooring stapler is $400!!! $$$

If you drain, rust shouldn't be an issue.

I went with aluminum as it is lighter.

California Air Tools is probably the way to go. I like the Senco PC1010, but I'm not sure if it would be enough for a flooring nailer. Works great for 16, 18, and 23 gauge nailers.

Drain the tank after each use and you shouldn't have an issue with rusting.
