Electric Chainsaw "clutch"

Its a Craftsman, from the 80s, but no parts are available, which is why I am posting here.

The clutch (using that term very weakly) is just 2 steel plates. They are held together by nut and a Belleville washer (spring washer). I have added extra Belleville washers, but it did not help. It was heavily used and the surface of the 2 plates are now "polished" smooth. Consequently, the clutch slips as soon as you BARELY touch any piece of wood.

Suggestions on how I can make this "clutch" actually transmit some torque ?

Sand off the "glaze"?

Been there, done that. It made it WORSE !

Sure it didn't have some kind of friction pad in between that's gone missing?

got a picture? I'm thinking wear has taken it's toll and there's not enough friction between the plates now to transmit the torque

Seems like it's time to buy a new saw, unless you like to waste time and money beating a dead horse.
