I'm looking for some electric deadbolts for cabinets, preferably ones that can't be seen from the outside. I searched online but most are outrageously expensive. I don't need Fort Knox style security.

This seems usable, but my cabinets don't have a strike (am also considering using in the kitchen to keep kids out of the cabinets)

All I can come up with is an aftermarket power door lock kit, like those installed on cars without power doors. Kinda big though...

Have you looked into adapting linear actuators to you applications? A linear actuator is along the line as to what you want but you may have to improvise the mounting. And they come in all different sizes from small enough for RC cars and planes to bank vault doors.

Why not try automotive door lock actuators? They're pretty cheap, here's a place that has them for $5.50 each. You'll need a switch, relays and a 12v power source to use them. Another idea is to go to the junk yard and get them out of cars. Just bring a 12v battery of a cordless drill to test to see if they work.

Yeah, I mentioned that in my original post, but that's my last resort plan if the "customer" just wants something cheap. I have the stuff laying around, I guess I'll throw in the keyless entry too!

So, I'll need 12V DC...can I just splice into a 12V electronics adapter?
