So I recently purchased a home, the previous owner left a rather larger electric 120v fireplace. I really dont care for it but dont want to exactly toss it since it seems like it was expensive.

Think it could heat a 2 car garage enough to make it livable in the winter? It hardly gets below 25F here, most days its 35F.

my other idea was a propane powered dynaglow.

If it plugs into a regular wall outlet it's no more than 1500 watts, so it's not going to provide all that much heat. It may help a little if you're working right in front of it, but it will be won't be enough to heat an entire two car garage (especially if the garage isn't insulated.)

No. If it was super insulated maybe. But with two garage doors it’s a loosing battle. I use a propane heated far in excess of Normal heat loss calcs.

I wouldn't even bother unless it's an attached garage that's incredibly well insulated. You're better off with a 5000 or 7500 watt hanging heater, if you want to stick with electric heat. Air seal and insulate well, if it isn't already.

Save the fireplace if you want a little extra heat in an office or basement game room or something like that.

I have a 24x36 stick build detached garage air sealed well that a 1500watt heater will hold temps above 55 on cold 25F days. Two heaters will get it to 61 or 62. I suspect it would take 5000 or more to get it to 72F I was using the heaters to help me decide what size mini split to install.
