Hi, this winter has been pretty rough on me. I have 6 electric garage doors, and snow falls in when I open them. I need to shovel a lot of snow to get them to close. My idea is to cut a groove in the concrete, lay the self regulating heat tape on the groove. That should heat the concrete under the door seal. Anyone have done this, or any idea why it wouldn't work?

Cutting a groove in there seems excessive, certainly non-reversible. Why not just find some good kind of tape to experiment with? you might also find an 8' piece of angle iron to lay on the heat tape.

In your neck of the woods it will be tough to expect quick results.
good luck.

I've seen advertisement for heat mats you can lay out on top of the concrete and plug into an outlet. You might want to look around for something like that. It isn't permanent and it's up and running as soon as you open the box and lay them out.
