For those who have them, how did you mount them? I see some are mounted to the ceiling others to a bar bolted to the ceiling. I purchased a 1200lbs electric hoist and it has no instructions how to property anchor other than to say "confirm popertly anchored" well isn't that helpful. Thx

I mounted mine to a steel frame that I move around. Just welded some 1/4" x 2" steel flat bar in a rectangle shape, on one side of the cross beam, and bolted the hoist to it. Not clear enough to see in the piccie, but you get the idea.

If you mount it to your roof you want to put steel angle/box section to spread the load over a big area, rather than just on one joist.

Unless you have something like 4" x 12" joists of course.......

If you don't have I-beam or heavy timber framing, build a steel frame like above. A friend of mine (who SHOULD know better) just about collapsed his garage with a comealong trying to raise his quad up to change the front tires.

I got the heaviest barn door track from McMaster Carr and mounted the hoist on two trolleys. It was rated for 1000lbs. For heavier stuff I chained a hoist to the ridge beam. Engineer said it would be good for a ton.

Attached mine to the 2X8's on the other side of the dreaded OSB. Used 4 metal plates on each side of beam cut to receive a 2" galvanized pipe.
