Electric Impacts...

What is the best deal out there for electric impacts?
I have 2 garages and no air in one of them so I an electric gun.

What do you need it for? Removing rusted lugnuts, removing multiple fasteners, rebuilding complete cars? Are you looking for corded or cordless? The use will dictate (big word for a goofball like me) the best tool. I have a Craftsman corded one, 2 different Craftsman cordless (1/4" hex drive and a 19.2 volt 1/2" drive) - these are good for light to medium duty work. For heavy duty work, I have a Ingersoll Rand cordless (350+ lb/ft of torque).

I have the dewalt XRP 1/2 18 volt.

I have the CMan 19.2 Lithium Ion, hasn't let me down thus far. Used it to remove rusted lugnuts, crank bolts, etc.

I have the Dewalt xrp 1/2 18 volt and it does a very good job. Better yet if you can just buy the bare tool you can save some money,(unless you do not have the charger or batteries that will bring up the cost).

If you are talking 110 volt powered, I have a few, I have a Blck & Decker Industrial 1/2" that has serverd me very well, its rated at 250 ft.lbs and it will do that without complaining. I have a Milwaukee 1/2" thatworks well but the B&D seems more powerful. From the reviews I've read the Harbor Freight 1/2" electric impact, which is on sale this month for $39.99 is a pretty good unit.

I paid like $32 on sale for my orange HF corded 1/2 impact and its worked well. First time I used it the switch seemed a little funky, but hasn't happened since so maybe it was just not broken in or something.

Torque isn't great, but seems plenty for most tasks and hasn't failed to remove anything yet.

Its big, kinda heavy, kinda noisy, and needs a place to plug in the cord.

Were I to do it again I "might" spend the extra $100 to get a cheap 18v cordless just to have something to take to the junkyard/not home etc., maybe not.

I have two older Craftsman corded 110v 1/2 dr impacts that I've had for years and still perform like new. I just got an IR 14.4v LIon battery 3/8 dr that I'll be getting a chance to use for the first time later on today.

I have the HF one and it has been fine for me.

I bought this one for my dad a couple years ago and no problems with it either.

110v Electric impacts aren't really good for anything other than removing lugs because they're so big and bulky.

I've got an old Craftsman elec impact I've had for years and it'll snap lugs loose no problem. I keep it at the house just in case I need to switch off a flat tire or something.

I have a Milwaukee 1/2" thatworks well but the B&D seems more powerful. I had that HF unit once upon a time. Needed it for a njob when I was in the building trades. Useless pos with no power. A 10" ratchet pouts out more torque.

In a past life I was managing machine moves. The crating crew was required to asemble sides and tops with lag screws some up to 4"long by 1/2" dia. A project would take many thousands of screws. I was talking with the lead crater and he said they finally settled on DEwalts corded 1/2" drive as they could get up to 6 months out of them. Nothing else would hold up. This is also 10 year old information.

I had the exact opposite experience. I used it to replace the motor mounts on my Accord and the wheel bearing. For the wheel bearing, it removed the axle nut and suspension bolts with no problem. The only thing I think on my car that it would not be able to remove would be the crankshaft pulley bolt but I might even give it a try.

That being said, I would still probably get a cordless impact because moving the cord around for some jobs would annoy me.

I have an old corded B&D impact that works ok. Then I went to air tools, and now I have a Milwaukee M18 cordless that gets used more than everything else. Tearing down engines is no problem for the M18

I have it - and it's awesome. Just used it a few minutes ago. I seriously thought it would a joke, but was really impressed. Worked everytime I've used it. Removing busted ball joints, lug nuts, mower blade, engine mounts, etc.. And at around $40 on sale - can't beat it.
