I recently purchased an Equipto metal workbench for my garage. I desperately needed a larger work area and I finally found a used one, in great condition, for a reasonable price. I'm really happy with it.

Question is...how do I safely mount receptacles in the metal legs?

Obviously the table leg has a cutout for a receptacle, but you'll need to add an elecrical box to cover the backside. It looks like there's holes for mounting screws.

Sandwich a receptacle and a handybox on the backside of the leg, with the screws going thru the whole thing from the front. Most newer workbench legs are punched for receptacles. Handy boxes should fit just fine. Due to their size, don't plan on running wires both in and back out of the handyboxes. Mount a larger deep 4x4 box on the back side of the bench and spider the wires out to the various handyboxes so you have only one wire/cable going into the handybox.

If well hidden and protected I would not hesitate to use Romex to do this. I did this on my wooden workbenches. Used handyboxes with brackets on them for stud mounting, and wired each bench using a 4x4 or octagon box to distribute the wires to the three or four receptacles on each bench. Installed a cord and plug to supply the distribution box (the benches can be easily move with a pallet jack).
