Anyone using electric infrared heaters? I need roughly 50,000 BTUs to heat my garage, looking at maybe finding about 4 electric infrared heaters and mount them spaced out around my 30x40 building.

Anyone using electric infrared heaters? I need roughly 50,000 BTUs to heat my garage, looking at maybe finding about 4 electric infrared heaters and mount them spaced out around my 30x40 building.
I thought about it and did put in a small 1500 watt infrared heater for temporary use. I have now put in two forced air electric heat that are 5000 watt each.
The good and the bad of infrared heaters is they do not heat the air but heat the objects in their path. Turn towards the heater and you warm your face and your backside freezes; turn around and you get opposite effect. Now with enough infrared heater objects can warm up and radiate heat off them and warm the air. The heat near them is immediate, but to heat a large area takes more time. I see them more as spot heaters, but maybe others have different experiences.
To get 50,000 btu from electric heat probably will make your meter spin too. I don't know that infrared heaters cycles off like forced air electric heaters will. So, you might do the math based on your local utility rates. Plus, how big is your garage and how much insulation do you have in it....and what is your climate like?

What brand/model of Electric heaters did you end up with?
I put in two Fahrenheat 5000 watt heaters. There is another recent thread that suggests they are no long available, or least no longer available from Lowes. I think people like them pretty well. There are other brands and this brand is also rebadged under other names. You might go the the Fahrenheat website to see what is available. They make a 7500 watt heater. What attracted me is the relative low cost of the heaters and the relatively low installation cost...for my use and my cost of electricity.

I don't have any heat myself yet, but I'm really interested in trying this type of radiant heater and putting it over my workbench. It's designed to heat indoor rooms so you could run lengths as long as you need for your garage:

I use a portable propane fired radiant heater as one-of-many in my garage right now. I experience exactly the cold/warm/cold sensation depending on where and how I'm standing. I think the commercial type would be too much of this, only a hot top-of-head feeling. Something like that cove heater would heat objects better I'd think.
